My icons are set at 48px. Large enough to see the pretty pictures, but small enough not to get in the way.
I guess I could vote 50x50 then.

The MS Icon size guidelines are here. Where the icons are used affects what possible sizes they can be.

Yes but it doesn't appear to say what size the S,M & L equates to.

For apps they use 16x16, 32x32 & 48x48 I believe. The 256x256 is used when for thumbnails.

Well there you go then. I did not understand much of your link but this bit. Seems to imply you can change your desktop icons from 16x16 up to 256x256 I guess it will be on a control panel somewhere yes?

I have used 128x128 when setting up a Mac for my Dad. Short sighted old bugger needed big icons and big text. It takes nothing to fill his 20" screen, but he is happy so what do I care?

I have then on the smallest as they're still quite large @ 1920x1200 on a 26 inch LCD but you can have then huge in windows 7 if you so desire

I have my desktop at 56x56, as I occasionally have a lot of documents on my desktop. That way I can see the details under the icon as well.

On my XP you can set any size you want from 16 to 72 pixels. Mine are currently 32, because anything else would be madness.

48x48 apparently. Although I rarely use the Icon view in my windows, I'm normally a list or column type of person.

It also determines the icon size on your desktop. Mark
