I can't even imagine what can be done technically beyond the PlayStation 3 in the near future.

"A question I often get is when we are going to see PlayStation 4. When somebody can craft the technology that exceeds what we're able to do on the PS3, but we are still just starting to harness it."

It's alleged many developers have had quite a bit of trouble harnessing the PS3 of course... :?

From comments on another post the PS3 is still only a fraction of its intended product life so they may be working on a successor but only at a simple level to add new features in the next version as they arise. That will only be in a test model to see if it actually works. It could be four or five years before anything else comes along.

I think the comments were more useful. The planned lifecycle of the PS3 might be 10 years but Sony could easily bring out a PS4 after 5 years.

I think MS will bring out the next 'box in the next year and this is what has stopped me from buying one now.

I would not know, but one thing that put be off the Xbox 360 apart from the red ring of death was that many Xbox games which were supposed to be playable on the Xbox 360 were not. I did not want a second console under the TV.

Not really news. None of the current consoles have paid off their costs yet. It'll be years before we see a new one.

I think that the Wii is profitable and has been from day one.

Yeah but the Wii has existed since 2001.

Yes but they were never sold as loss leaders like the PS3 or Xbox 360.

You can't class the Wii as a next gen console and comparing it to products that are is foolish. If anything it is a supplementary console to go with one of the other two (or both) but it's not a stand alone next gen console so classifying/comparing to those that are is silly

I would not classify them as next gen but the controllers were very novel.
