I caught a short discussion about this at "the other place" today and, not having heard of it before, did a little research.

Has anyone here had any experience of using them ?

We will be decorating at home before long and having new flooring in the hallway so these would appear to be a solution to my current system of cables that go under carpets and around door frames etc. Functional but not aethetically pleasing.

Any suggestions or information would be most gratefully accepted.

They work well, technically their use can break a few radio rules but they're fine for streaming music & video around a house.

If you are having new flooring, why don't you take the opportunity to run the cables under the floor?

My girlfriend was too quick off the mark with the ceiling, we had to put up a new ceiling and I wanted to run speaker cables around the room over the new ceiling, before it was sealed up, but the handworker turned up and decorated, before the cables arrived!

We also put in about 15 new power sockets in the kitchen while redecorating.

When we get the heating redone, we'll need to dig up the floors (cellar, ground floor and 1st floor are all concrete floors) and I'll take the opportunity then of laying CAT5e/6 cable all around the house, as I currently have to use WLAN and I don't really like it.

I have a homeplug system that was given to me from BT when I took their BB/TV package. They work really well actually. It used to connect the IPTV box to the router and streams on demand content (video). No setup at all required, just press two buttons and go.

I've been using them for years and would recommended them no problem, anything gaming or streaming I have connected to my hub via plugins (gaming PC, PS3 etc), only the laptops in the house run WiFi.
