Does anyone have any experience of using NIS authentication for Macs? The NIS server runs Centos 5.x and the Mac runs OS X 10.6.2. Do you know if you can do offline logins using cached credentials ike you can with Windows and Active Directory?

I can't remember if NIS has been taken out of Snow Leopard, I'm pretty sure it was there in Leopard.

Thanks. The Mac guy from Basel is coming over later this week, so I'll hold off until he's been. I'd much rather use the Linux file servers (15k FC disk) than the Windows directories running on SATA from a certain outsourced-company. BTW The equivalent to offline files was going to be my next question :)
