If you want to discuss the issues of flash, multi tasking, size, etc.. then leave it in one of the myriad threads that have already been ruined by this. It's getting boring now.

You guys are sounding more fanboi-ish than anyone else. Just leave it in one place!

Thing is though you have to add the cost of the mobile broadband on top of the price as well.

Think I'll be opting out.

You make it sound like you have to automatically get one by default.
If you don't want it you don't have to justify not getting it. It's not exactly rocket surgery is it.
Bear in mind that the price of this has still to be officially announced (though personally I don't imagine it's too far away from what's being quoted here).

Earlier threads were discussing features or lack of. Now that we have a possible pricing point a value can be applied to the features, so why not discuss that here?

There's a difference between discussing features and not-so-thinly calling everyone that actually wants to get an iPad idiotic and soul-less.

In all seriousness though if I just place the "i am a cynic" cap on my head it does seem omitting an SD slot would mean that they can put out the same device with 3 different size drives, no?

I think it depends... My laptop and my desktop have SD card readers (my desktop has a 13 way reader) and I've never used them. Having the SD card reader as an add-on dongle is fine, for me.

It reduces the cost for the basic device, there are less openings to let dust and moisture in and if you need to read SD cards, you can carry around the adapter with you and plug it in when needed - and if SD is dropped / replaced or the reader breaks, you just buy a replacement...

My response here is to do with pricing and how SD might or might not affect that.... (just to be clear, dont want anyone moaning)

Ok just to be clear I'm not talking about the relative worth of the SD slot and its benefits in that sense or arguing the product is a 'duff' because of its omission. I'm not having those thread arguments again.

What I'm saying is that 3 models have been anounced (on this thread, not officially??) with slightly varying storage sizes. I wonder if (by omitting the SD) Apple made this possible by design. I mean if it had SD (one that fits the card flush that is) couldnt you just buy the cheapest model and add 'storage' as and when you needed it? Just a thought.

Personally I'm interested in the wi-fi only model 64GB. I just have to justify it with the missus. Maybe she'll get sick of me stealing her laptop and send me out to get one (evil plan forming in my mind  )

That's right, sensible people with souls and a reason to live will opt for a netbook.

If you want a proper netbook then get one. I am looking at the iPad as doing something else for me. It might be a jumbo iPod but that is what I want.

It's a thought. I suspect Apple may have considered it, decided not to for now, and may introduce it for iPad 2.0.

Don't forget the dock connector. I'm sure there are third party companies frantically coming up with dozens of ways to connect iPads to almost anything via that one connector, just as happened with the iPod and iPhone. It may not be the most elegant way to connect a card reader or external camera, I admit.

I love this fevered speculation. Apple must love it, too, for all the acres of free publicity it's giving.

And for which Microsoft are incredibly jealous of. The Zune could not get this level of interest.

That comment wasn't meant to be taken seriously. I could have put "I'm not getting one", but that's too boring and predictable.

I'll definitely not be getting one.

But then I said that about an iPod, too.

I am in the same position. I think next year it might be on the shopping list.

Apple iPad UK launch delayed?

Quote:
Apple's iPad's UK release may be delayed by production problems, according to a new report.

A research note by Canaccord Adams analyst Peter Misek claims Apple is suffering a "manufacturing bottleneck" when it comes to iPad production.

The note claims Apple may only have 300,000 iPads ready at launch, rather than the one million hoped for. Those iPads which will be available, may only be on sale in the US, with customers outside Apple's home market having to wait.

"An unspecified production problem at the iPad's manufacturer, Hon Hai Precision, will likely limit the launch region to the US," Misek claims in the note.

"It is also possible that, given the limited number of units available in March, the launch will be delayed for a month."

Officially, the Wi-Fi enabled version of the iPad is meant to go on sale at the end of this month, with the more expensive 3G and Wi-fi version to follow in April. Apple has yet to announce UK pricing or who might be partners for 3G data plans noting: "3G data plan may be sold separately."

Canaccord Adams analyst Peter Misek also predicted Apple will sell around 1.2 million iPads in fiscal year 2010 and 3.5 million in 2011. Additionally, the analyst raised his forecast for iPhone sales in the current quarter to 7.9 million units, up from his previous prediction of 7.2 million.

The delay will not affect me as I am looking at getting one next year. Though I will look forward to seeing them in the stores so that I can try one out. Overall the delay may help build demand.
