Us men can't multi-task, so we can't use the phone and drive at the same time

When women say this to me (men cant multitask) my response it simply this..... rather than do two things at once poorly we do one thing brilliantly

Women can do two things at once, but one of those has to be talking.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

I'm not that fussed about people being on the phone to be honest. I don't do it myself as I have a hands free kit and that's just easier. I'm not whipped up into a frenzy about it as the government has successfully got everyone else, though. And I have no issues with speeding either (depending on the driving conditions, obviously), though for obvious reasons, I won't be doing it for a while.

Well in this case, I had to make an urgent call to the office to deal with something. It took 15 seconds tops. Had I held the phone in my lap on speaker phone I wouldn't have been done, because they wouldn't have seen me. That's what I find a little ridiculous. It's far more dangerous to text, but they'd never see anyone do it, so couldn't catch them. As for the right light thing, I wouldn't use my phone whilst in traffic. I'm purely talking about on a run.

To put my views across simply:
If it's not important enough for them to keep trying to call me (in which case I'll pull over and take it) it's not important enough for me to stop driving for, so it can wait until I stop/arrive.
Only reason I would buy a bluetooth headset is if it supported A2DP (bought a sennheiser one that didn't support it so it went back, was faulty too and wouldn't stay connected to my phone) for streaming music. Then I could use it with myPod

Really? You couldn't pull over and make the call or wait until there was a suitable spot on your journey to pull over and make the call? Mark

I never even touch my mobile phone when I'm driving. If it rings, it rings. If I get a message it stays unread until I'm stopped at my destination.

MIne goes off. I never have it on when I drive. I do not feel so important that I have to be contactable 24/7.

I know there's a hardcore of haters here. As I said, it was urgent i.e. time critical. I don't make or take calls willy nilly. Most of the time I don't use the phone. There was nowhere to pull over within a few miles and it had to happen at that time. I just think there are way worse things to do and a one size fits all approach, doesn't work. I can't afford the £300 it would cost for a proper kit and I don't drive a posh enough car to have one built in.

Actually, these days you don't really need one. I've got one of these that was on special offer for £25. I've got an built in thing in the car that I can put my Sim card in, but this is less hassle.

My best friend has a hands free car kit in his BMW. It works fine. Though the voice activation is a bit out there at times. When I know he is driving I still keep the calls very brief. It is still a higher risk than not having one.

I have that as well. On the odd occasion I've used it it worked pretty well, although it is a bit disconcerting talking to your car...

But at least you can try and convince people that you have a car phone. Though it does give the rest of us crazies a cover for actually talking to our car.

Haven't you recently commented on how much you've spent on home and car AV?
