Awesome.

I have to say actually finding a member of staff that knew their rectal cavity from their elbow was a pleasant experience, was able to quickly find out what discount I can get on each product (as they differ from 0 to 15 or 20%), and that I can't combine them etc.

The headphones are rubbish, but adequate for most. Plus they allow third parties to supply decent headphones.

If they pull some sh*t like and force me to buy new headphones/adapters this I will go into my Apple store and rage the f*** out

I have 2 sets of earphones, one bass oriented, one treble oriented. No way am I buying more headphones or adapters when I already have an iPod Classic that I will be using as a car stereo so I don't have to listen to the drivel that is Radio 1

You should be OK with the iPod touch. You probably will get headphones with the remote, but it’s not necessary for the operation of the thing. The only downside of the touch is that you can’t operate it in your pocket like you can with a classic - you can feel the touchwheel and use it without looking. There are 3rd party adapters with the remote controls, so you can use your better headphones if you want.

FYI - the headphones I use with my iPod (and I have a very old iPod Photo) is a set of Sennheiser PX200 - and they are a HUGE improvement on the supplied headphones.

I have £500 Shures and the improvement is amazing. I was a little annoyed when the iPhone needed an adaptor to use ordinary headphones. Has that changed?

Yes. Regular headphones will work with it now, but obviously you’d need a microphone adapter if you wanted to use it as a phone with your expensive “cans”.

It was changed on the 3G & 3G-S models

Sennheisers are good value IME if you don't wanna go overboard cost-wise, or think they won't last long depending on what you're doing etc :)

I must say, I too think iTunes is dreadful. I used it a couple of years ago, and it was fairly straightfoward; but now... It is shocking. The iPhone and iPod are great bits of kit, yet they are locked into this sh!tty application.

Is this really the best apple can manage?

Btw, I'm not bowled over by the headphones either, can anyone suggest a decent replacement set that doesn't cost the earth. My nephew swears by skullcandy, but I've never tried them.

I havent read through all the posts so it may have already been mentioned but for the money the Sennheiser CX300s are a bargain. I use them with my Touch and they're a massive upgrade over the standard Apple ones. http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electro ... t:Portable

Yip, those are the ones I've got, the rest of the range is pretty good from what I've seen too (think big_D has a set from it).

I had a pair of these http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electro ... oduct.html but they broke so I am having to use the standard iPhone headphones. They are horrific and they hurt my ears. I don't know how anyone can think that they are even adequate.

I get paid on Friday so will replace them then.

OK shoot me down if you want but I really don't understand all this bitching about iTunes. Been using it for years on all my iPods (on my 5th one now I think) and never had any problems. Seems to me it's mainly PC users than moan *ducks* and the mac people are pretty happy with it.

Finlay you're an above average user so the UI won't do what you 'want' it to do. There's lots of 'hack' software if there is a specific task you can't do. Am sure you will enjoy your new iPod Touch when it arrives.

Btw iPod touch users look at the fix I posted under apple hardware yesterday. My boyfriend's Touch gimped out at the weekend but I managed to fix it after hours spent trawling through the net. Worth making a note of it in case you ever have problems.

You mean a UI wont allow me to easily navigate between areas and separate (or exclude) free and paid for apps on my request? It can't be an advanced user request surely? :?:

I'm moaning about it because it's only in the recent versions where this has changed, just like the option to easily switch between album/artist in the normal view without having to go into the view options. It's not advanced UI, it's UI 101, put quick buttons to the actions users will want to perform the most often....

I'm afraid it is. All I can say is it works like a dream on the Mac. I wonder if it's the best Apple can manage within the confines of other operating systems.

*shrug*

I have to say +1. iTunes works like a dream on my MBP, but the PC version is rubbish by comparison (generally slow, unstable and I encounter a variety of unexpected behaviour).
