Right I have had over the past week or so issues with my motherboard, pc will no longer work properly so just checking if anyone else can think of anything to try...

Issues:
PC does not always POST, half the time it will have beep fast continuously (no POST code available for motherboard, I have checked)
WHEN it does post, the BIOS screen only gets as far as the memory testi, then it wont display more, it sometimes doesn't render the characters properly. goes back to 'normal' behaviour about a minute later completing the BIOS screen
Takes a VERY long (as in over 5 minutes) to boot into windows 7
When it is in mouse clicks and text entry lag REALLY badly, as in up to a minute
Randomly locks up completely during work, seems to be random and not just under load etc.

I have tried:
New memory (known working memory in every slot) and tested other memory in another pc, memory works fine, single stick doesn't fix the issue.
Resetting the BIOS/CMOS reset
Different USB ports for peripherals

Going to try:
Going to try it with no drives connected
going to try a different graphics card
Going to try a different PSU

I think it's pretty FUBAR on the motherboard though, after a BIOS reset (and manually setting the memory speed to 333/800mhz in the BIOS it would boot at 816mhz and really bad timings) :x

It's going to be GFX, PSU or the board.

Sounds like you're going the right way about testing it though.

Luckily got a spare of each of those to test with!
Just trying to eliminate one thing at a time, so glad I have multiple machines that can share parts, or it would take forever!

No, going to pull one of out another pc to test next though as it's low risk and fairly easy to do, as long as they are the right size :)

Pulled one from my spare pc (same size and voltage) and it booted fine, got it to run fine and load windows fine, no hissy fits with the memory either :D

Now... where is the best place to get a few spares? (they are 3v ones if there are different types)

My local (very small) Tesco sells them with the other batteries.

The code on the cell will tell you what it is

CR2032 is usual

First letter = voltage

  • C / B = 3V
  • G / L = 1.5V

Last two digits => Height in 0.1mm
Middle digit(s) => Radius in mm

Interesting, but what about the second letter?

Well it's going a bit funky again, can't risk it dying later rather than sooner so replacing it with a P45 Asus P5Q Deluxe (based on how much better I find Asus boards now with my HTPC too)

Shame it's difficult to find a matching chipset, hopefully I won't need to reinstall TOO much
