There is no reason for all managers to be valued above those they manage. In this respect, I do believe in the communist ethos.

Good management is very important, but no more so than the work the organisation sets out to achieve. Only those who can actually manage should be given managerial responsibility. Value should depend purely on actual performance. It's the difficult nature of valuing management that leads to inflated salaries.

Yes but good managers are almost invisible, They do not create waves in the organisation. Bad ones also can be invisible but you can tell by the disaster around them.
