Anyone had a chance to play this game (well the demo is on XBL and PSN)

I got the demo and thought it was pretty good to be honest, the controls were easy to get and the combat system is quite fluid, only down side is the submission game is quite weak.

Will probably buy it though :)

It's Liddell vs Rua, Rua is the 'weaker' fighter, I find it much more difficult to win with Rua than with Chuck (especially as Chuck as quite a few mores that can one hit KO)

Wow that was fun. Watching the gumshield come flying out of Lidell's mouth in slow mo after a knockout, and the way you see his whole mouth area move

It looks really good, did you get a heavy damage bit (where the screen goes black + white)? good when you hit them in the head then they fall down and the movement of you to get on top to pummel them :)

Yeah that was great as well. This is not the sort of game I would usually go for, but im really tempted.

I think that it's definitely a much funner game when played with a friend (as i was last night) but i can't see myself buying it personally just because i'll end up playing it round my mate's instead.

Also i still think the knockout system is too random.. sure sometimes it works for the most part, however there is *no way* that a game should feature a knockout after a single punch. My mate was playing as Lidell and i threw about 3 punches and the first punch he threw KO'd me... i've had the same with Shogun as well so it's not completely restricted to Lidell's "power". At the most i may have stepped in for a kick and been caught square, but other rounds i've punished way more times with kicks to the head and not had a result. I agree that it happens in real life and makes for good viewing, but the point of a game is to be balanced and give each fighter a fair chance of winning with the right skill. Luck should never be involved imo.

It's still a good game but i think that it will need to be tweaked... according to my friend this is the same demo they showed at last year's E3 so there's been nearly a year for tweaks and changes.

Also highlight of last night was the final match we had "winner takes all", i was being quite aggressive with shogun and landed quite a few hits to the head and body during a full guard, just after about one minute in he went for a clinch and pickup/slam only for me to reverse it, move into a guillotine and win by first round submission... pretty much a near perfect round .

Played this for the first time yesterday and I was very, very impressed. Think they've used the controls to full effect and I'm tempted to go out and get myself a 360 just for this game.

I played plenty of games against people and by myself, and although I'd agree playing against others was more fun, I enjoyed the AI too.

Loved it.

Shall bump this thread back up to the top 0.o

I'm getting constantly surprised by the difficulty curve in this game, it's something my friends play quite regularly and there's almost always something new that we've managed to integrate into our games from when we first started.

At first it was just brawling when we first got the game, we then moved on to more timing orientated fights whereby we'd punish each other if we whiffed a move. After that we picked up the ground game and learning the "best" ways to achieve full mount... now i've just heard from my friend that one of them has nailed transition reversals (not just blocking) and we're going to have to contend with that next time we all have a bash lol.

On a semi-side note, i remember when i first tried out the demo i'd be alright with the beginner difficulty and the experienced would give me a relatively good fight albeit more biased to me... i then proceeded to try advanced and promptly got my rear end handed to me consistantly in the first round be it getting pummeled in a ground and pound or from a stray kick in standup. I tried it again today with the skills i gained from playing it so much with my mates and i can now pretty much dominate the experienced AI winning 4/5 rounds excluding any flash knockouts.

All in all am definitely looking forward to this now (too bad it comes out during exams -.-') and think that if they removed the flash knockout system then it could be an amazing tournament fighter.... and if they tightened up the counter system as well... ¬.¬, it's too lenient with timing imo.

Since it's been out since Friday was wondering if anyone picked it up ?

Had an evening-night-morning long session on friday round my friend's who bought it.

The variety seems to be quite good and the other two styles available Boxing and Judo are very good.

The former really deals heavy damage when up close and the latter imo completely negates BJJ, sure you lose the technique bonuses of BJJ but what you get is a solid throw game (which is beastly... i got thrown about 5 times and my stamina had like half left.. this was at the end of the first round) and imo much better groundwork. BJJ has specific transitions such as the rubber guard and half guard "reversal transition" (it's a major transition that puts you in offense whilst in defense), there's also one more i can't remember but Judo has a "reversal" from Open Guard down (a la rubber guard leaves you in side control) as well as a reversal from Back Mount i think it's called which is always much more useful imo. Not to mention it has a major transition escape from Full Mount (not like Wrestling or BJJ which requires you to go into a lesser disadvantaged situation, Full Mount Down and Back body triangle).

Not really noticed a difference in the fight engine although fights seem to be more fair and the probability of flash knockouts reduced. Submissions also seem to be generally easier to pull off although i don't know if that's just because there're more chars. to play with.

One gripe that we found today is how strength is a more dominant factor than either cardio or speed. For example i made a roughly balanced character, my friend made a strength biased character and another made a speed character (at the expense of the other two) and the latter got absolutely mullered. It's just that the punches he throws at the start of the round aren't powerful enough to do enough damage yet he lowers his stamina alot from throwing them consecutively. Ultimately in my book the priorities should go Strength > Speed = Stamina.

Also according to my friends the online community is rather lacking in skill... it may have been that we've played too much but from what i hear they aren't actually that good at all .
