Anyone know whether there's a cost implication for including business use on your car insurance policy as well as social, domestic and pleasure ?

We occasionally have to travel a few miles to another site for training courses and up to now I've just driven there and not given it a second thought. The boss however has deemed that this is business travel and we must show proof of insurance for business use.

I'm smelling an increased premium here.

Shouldn't they be paying for it, then?

My employer pay to insure my car for business use.

Last time I had it on mine it didn't cost anything, and I used to travel the length and breadth of the country.

Tesco's used to include business travel in their policies.

You will need to look at your policy

“Social, Domestic and Pleasure only” normally includes commuting to / from work

It depends if you go from home to the other place or from work
Also do you ever carry anyone (work colleague) with you?

Ideally you should call you Ins Co and ask.
If there is an extra premium then you should get your boss to pay or they should provide a hire car

If they are that worried about the insurance, they should be providing a hire car or pool car for those trips... :?

Depends on the insurer. Some include it as an extra, others include business travel in the policy.

I add a few business miles and it costs next to nothing. There's levels of business cover though and I just needed the most basic one.

I've got a thousand miles a year business use on my policy and I don't know if it costs me any extra, but my insurance is pretty cheap.

I'm with Directline. They said there was no extra cost to adding business cover. They just wanted to be aware. However, other friends who are with Directline, make modifications to their policies or cars for minimal increase and then get hit come renewal time.

I usually pay £30 extra. But I haven't had the need this year. I'm a special case though with a modified policy, group 16 car and a conviction.

At work they have a policy that covers my car for business use and then pay the fuel cost. But I have to try to get either a company car or a hire car before using my own car.
