Canon MP610
Good speed and quality, just lacking wireless or Networking support.
I believe those are avaialable on the newer version 630(?) but this was the last in the shop and on offer.

I forgot to add the missus has a Samsung SPP-2020 printer (the little ribbon ink ones) for doing the odd 6x4s from her P&S camera

I stopped really needing colour prints a long while ago, I bought a Samsung ML-2010 for £40 off eBuyer a couple of years ago. I reckon a cartridge does perhaps 2500-5000 pages, and a cartridge refill at "Cartridge World" costs £25, so not too bad

HP Desket 970Cxi. Epic printer. It can rattle like 10ppm off when it's on draft, and that's including colours. It's more of a corporate printer though, (i is the consumer one) as you struggle to get cartridges for it. Out comes the refill kit.

Mine was £150 But still going strong after 6 or 7 year - a bargain. I've also got an HP Deskjet 5850 which I use for photos, quality great, but the network functionality on it is hit and miss.
