Pink Floyd sue EMI over download royalties It appears on the face of it that EMI is picking and choosing what parts of the contract does and does not apply to online sales. As the article states, when the contract was drawn up the was no online sales, so how it (EMI) can justify this action is a little beyond me.

To be honest every record company has treated their artists like this. Most do not really have a leg to stand on as their albums are a compilation of songs. A few artists are album only specialists and as such they should be sold as albums not singles. The labels need to renegotiate every contract if necessary.
