I've heard all the usual stories about depleted memory stocks, demand because of Win 7 etc, but £35 (on average) for a measly 2Gb of laptop RAM?

http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/6857060/K ... oduct.html

They can shove it right in their slot

Looking around, a similar 1Gb stick is £30 - I only paid about £10 six months ago

Crucial have pretty much the same price so I think it may just be the market at the mo. Memory prices have always been a bit volatile.

Mind you, I once paid £200 For 8MB of RAM.

I agree, prices are crazy these days. I bought G.Skill NQ 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 for £92 six months ago, now it is £140. 52% increase!

Did we not used to work out the value of memory in £/kilobyte?

Exactly –for my 1st “real” PC (which by the way ran OS2 rather than windows) rather than Spectrum / Atari ST etc I paid to have an extra 4 Mb (taking it to a massive 8MB).
So in the end its all relative – there was a mass over supply some time ago and that is no longer the case. Also the fact that as most of this is priced in US$ means that it has got more expensive

RAM prices have increased a lot but only because it got so cheap last year (nobody was making any money as they flooded the market).

If you want 1GB DDR2 800MHz SODIMMS let me know, I've got 6 brand new ones I'm about to sell for £12 each.

Good shout, I have two kits of Crucial 2gb Ballistix collecting dust at home. It seems that I can get £30 for each on Ebay. I am definitely going to list them...

Cheers Sas, but it's a 2GB stick I need this time around (netbook with only one slot and a 2GB maximum :( ), and I'm in no real hurry as the installed 1GB will cover most tasks for a while :)
