You will be a carrier just not impacted by it. Try because they aren't allowed to There was hell to pay last year, or the year before can't remember which, when M$ said they would secure win 7 and the AV went mad and intended to sue M$

The Mac can become a carrier. Just because it doesn't affect the Mac doesn't mean it can't work it's damage on another PC. Read back over the thread, someone found a virus on a camera memory card. Memory sticks can also place the virus on the Mac then the next time a clean memory stick is inserted it can get infected. Just because there are no 'in the wild' virii for the Mac don't be ignorant to how they can be disseminated. Mark

But the card did not do the spreading. It is a passive device. The person plugging it in did the passing on. Also if the same stick went into a Mac the Mac would not be affected so how would it then pass it on?

Just a thought. Are you saying the Mac passively spreads the virus?

An old example ( haven't heard of a macro virus for years ) was that the normal.dot template file in MS word used on a pc and mac would have the virus but as the virus had no effect on the Mac OS it was unaffected whilst and document sent from the Mac to a PC would infect the PC.

Doesn't that sound a bit like "I'm alright Jack"? * John disapproves *

And what's wrong with that? There is nothing stopping all you guys buying a Mac OS X machine (or linux for that matter). How about you pay for me to install something on my machine in order to protect your machine. That sounds fair I think It's definitely not fair that I should pay for something to protect your machine.

That would be cheaper than paying the Mac OS premium over a Windows PC.

But if everybody bought a mac (or used Linux) then we'd all need to run AV as the virus writers would start writing virus's for it.

Here we go again. I knew it wouldn't be long before the 'security through obscurity' argument came up. Mark
