We have long switched to liquid. Plus when it's half empty, I add water to make the product last longer. Even before we had 'liquid soap' I preferred using Fairy Liquid rather than a bar of soap.

Cheap supermarket coal tar bar soap ftw.
Btw. neither Swarfega nor washing-up liquid are soaps. They are detergents.
Soap consists of sodium or potassium salts of fatty acids and is obtained by reacting common oils or fats with a strong alkaline solution in a process called saponification. The base hydrolyses the fats, yielding alkali salts of fatty acids (crude soap) and glycerol.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

I use liquid on the basins and a bar of soap in the bath. I want a "both" option but I guess I'm voting PIE!!

This always makes me laugh, too. I don't think they realise that any supposed damage to the hair doesn't have time to take effect before it is cut off.

I have liquid soap by the sink and in downstairs loo and shower gel in shower. I have a bar of soap in the upstairs bathroom and used it yesterday for the first time in... errrmmm.... a very long time My man has been known to use shower gel on his hair although now he's going grey he's been using my posh shampoo and conditioner hoping it would make his hair feel better but hasn't really made any difference.

No it isn't. Any product that contains materials that bacteria can use as a food source can support bacteria. This is particularly true for products that contain plant-derived materials rather than synthetic ones. The only way you can protect a product like this is to either adjust the pH to such a point that bacteria can't survive or by adding a biocide. There's no difference in cleaning performance as they all use the same materials, just that one contains a lot of water.

I have it on the authority of an Environmental Health Officer that a bar of soap is only hygienic the first time it is used, unless you subsequently wash the top layer off. Ergo liquid soap is more hygienic, and cleaner too.

So how do you clean the part of the soap dispenser before you press it

I think that would only be an issue if you pressed the dispenser and then licked the finger you'd pressed it with before you washed your hands.... ...and what kind of ID10T would do that??
