So, here’s a list of cars from the last 10 years which stand out, are different and could become classic cars. What do others think?

The Bugatti, yes. All the others, no.

I'd agree with the Viper, the NSX, the TT, the Thunderbird, the Cayman and the Crossfire. The Veyron's got a free pass, really.

Agreed. A number of the cars in there I really violently disagree with being on the list. Porsche haven't produced anything inovative since the original 911.

yes to Bugatti, and TT, no to the rest. The Cayman was no classic. The 911 yes even though it is a modification rather than a major overhaul. The Aston DB9 should have been in there as well.

Yes to the Veyron and the Crossfire, I agree that the DB9 should be there, possibly also the Vanquish, but the rest are all a giant thumbs down from the Zippy jury.

Classics aren't just exclusive, pricey cars. Classics can also be the type of thing that's available and ubiquitous (see the Minor or the Mini). They don't necessarily have to handle well, be high powered, well screwed together or original. What I do think they require is to have an intriguing uniqueness to them in some way, that has made people stand by them over time.

Deinfitely, look at the Triumph classics now, the TR7 is particularly close to my heart, it's wedge shape and classic (BL) engineering are the reason it's passed the test of time!!

Using that basis the Mini could be included but then so would the Fiat 500 even though it has its faults.

Where's the Ford Fiesta!?

The previous version of the Fiat 500 is already a classic. The modern one might well become more of a classic than the BMW-Mini simply because it's less ubiquitous and arguably more fun to drive.

I haven't seen the list yet, nor do I drive, but I love the Veyron

How can the MINI Cooper and Ford Mustang be on the list? The originals were classics, these are just modern cars making money of the classics success.

I certainly feel that the MIni is a bastardisation of the original, but given the opening paragraph of the article, it is a car which is definitely not a “jelly bean”. I personally feel that there is not enough variety on the roads as it is - pretty much all cars of the same class are the same shape, regardless of manufacturer.

I also agree that not all “classics” have to be super cars or high-powered toys. The Morris Minor is a classic - not just for its looks, but for what it was - an affordable car that anyone could own. It was a genuine utility car of its time.
