Why not? Surely all it would need would be a better lens?

There is no guarantee that flip phones have better cameras.

I think they mean these, not 'clamshell' phones. There's no reason why an iPod Touch/Iphone couldn't make a decent digital camcorder, plus they generally have more storage than those camcorders do. However it would take a lot of power to run, so you'd be shortening the endurance of your device by using it that way. Not so much of a problem in the Touch, but I suspect most people wouldn't want to be caught out with an iPhone with no charge left.

What would you all say if the iPhone 4 was as big as (or even slightly bigger than) the original iPhone?
If they made it bigger by a little bit, they might be able to get a bigger, better battery in there...Or other stuffs. I feel that they wouldn't though, because once you've shrunk a product, it doesn't seem acceptable to enlarge it again, it's almost considered as a "step back"...

Hmms well all the new (higher spec) HTC's are getting 3.7inch screens so I would be surprised if the iPhone was a bit bigger. Personally I'm not really bothered how "big" a phone is, as long as its not deep. I love the HD2 the screen on that is great its just a shame you cant get it with android.

That's what I was getting at by bigger. The things have gotten slimmer over the last three generations. At the expense of making it a little thicker and a little heavier, you could increase battery life...

Well I hope that iPhone 4 has a near identical exterior to the iPhone 2 and iPhone 3.
I think the design is iconic and makes it easy for people to go into as shop and just ask for what they have seen on so many advertisements and in the hands of so many of their friends.
Also all the accessories will still work.

Yes but a slight increase could be offset with as you say better battery life, and bigger screen. Those could be enough to offset any complaints. It depends on how much bigger. If you have bought a lot of accessories then you will be very miffed if none fitted any longer.

If you need a bigger screen buy an iPad. If not the iPhone is fine as it is thank you very much. Also large screens are such a battery hog, I will be happy enough if they leave it alone but maybe make it OLED to save on battery life.

I agree. I am looking at an iPad as a larger version of the iPod touch. Nothing more. I would prefer they left the iPhone alone size wise.

Same here. If it's any taller then I'd need a new tomtom car kit for it.

One advantage I see for keeping the form factor is that it helps the product stand out from the crowd.
Take Google's phone. Many know that Google had/have a phone. It was/is called the G1 (I think). Now if you have not kept up with every last bit of tech news is it possible to know if the G1 is still the Google phone to buy?
Oh, hang about. Is that still the Google phone? Did I not hear something about the new Google phone being called "Droid" I am not sure what it looks like but I think that the current Google phone is a Droid. Or maybe they make the G1 and the Droid. Or is Droid the operating system and the phone called the G2?
IMO confusion such as this really helps the Apples sales.

Apparently Engadget has said that Apple will announce the new iPhone on June 22nd but I can't find the article. I guess that means the release date will be June 22nd also

The first iPhone was announced months before it was released.
