Analyst man Michael Pachter has said the PSP is destined to be bottom of the pile in the handheld market unless Sony drops hardware and software prices drastically.

"I think they're doomed on small market share until they get more competitive on price. The PSPgo is more expensive than most iPod Touch devices and the game library is more expensive that the iPod library. Nintendo's got a huge cost advantage on the DS ... I think Sony is running into a brick wall trying to compete in that sector," he said on the GameTrailers Pach-Attack show.

"With that said, I don't think they're giving up. I think we're going to have a PSP 4, 5, and 6 thousand, I'm hopeful that they come down in price, and that the games come down in cost and that they can be competitive.

"But right now I'd say they're destined to be second place to Nintendo on the pure game front, and overall in third place with iPod thrown in there. So no, I don't think the PSP is going to be a huge success in future," added Pachter.

We love our PSPgo. It's expensive but it's just so small and nice, and used daily now. Two episodes of Deathnote and a quick go on Chinatown Wars on the train this morning. Sweet.

The PSP (any version) hasn't really got much going for it at the minute from my perspective... Mind you, neither's the DS

The PSP-300 is actually a nice bit of kit overall and the idea of the PSP-Go is very good. However the PSP-300 is hobbled by having a UMD drive (incredibly clunky piece of design) and the PSP-Go is hobbled by it's ludicrous price. if they'd put the PSP Go out at the same price as the PSP-3000, I suspect it would have sold in massive numbers. As it is they put it out at twice the price and next to nobody has bought one..

The PSP actually has some very very good games but it's just been marketed completely appallingly as a platform.
