The more Ive thought about the iPad over the last couple of months, the more I think I'd like one. Probably to replace my iPod Touch...

It would seem the obvious 'upgrade path' for iPod Touch users, rather than going from iPod Touch to notebook.

Agreed, though it could be very handy with home wifi.

Surprisingly positive.

This bodes well for my Apple stock.

Some iPad specific apps have shown up on iTunes already

Brushes
Things

Does seem to be a bit of a price premium over iPhone versions. However both would be 'day one' purchases if I was buying an iPad. Things for iPad is just beautiful looking...

Things might be something that I will get if I get an iPad. Very useful program.

That is going to be a whole new stimulus for the economy. People rushing out to buy the iPad and all the accessories.

They have have huge amounts of free publicity on US TV. It is the basis of an entire episode of Modern Family when Phil wants one for his birthday. The Colbert Report has one, and The Late Show with David Letterman has it appearing a number of times through out the show. You simply do not see that with a Microsoft or Sony product.

iBooks is up on the app store

You'll have to change your iTunes to US to see it (it will ask you if you want it to do this automatically when you click the link). You can't download it if your iTunes account is registered in the UK, it will tell you so and change your iTunes back to UK when you click the download link.

IIRC, every iPad shipping in the US has a copy of 'Winnie The Pooh' (as seen in the adverts and guide videos) installed already.

That might be down to the fact that Apple have not resolved licensing deals elsewhere yet. I would expect them to be be working on this as fast as possible.

Undoubtedly. Much like the iTunes music store and TV store were US only at first. You can apparently though use most ePub files with the iBooks app though - and there are plenty of them you could buy in the UK - so I'm hoping they bring the app out when the iPad launches on the UK and just disable the 'store' link somehow, rather than holding the app back until they have something to sell on it. We shall see.

It might actually make sense to release the iBook app here as soon as they launch. if people can use open ePub files then the publishers can see how many iBook users there are, they may decide to go with Apple. Though even if they do not and the books can be found on the publishers websites Apple will not have lost too much. They might find that iTMS sales are higher than the publisher site and opt to go with Apple and get volume sales.

Well, it's out in the US...

Update: Apple has posted videos of a few of the initial iPad apps on their site. Check out the one for 'The Elements', it's stunning. If that had been around when I was 15, I'd have ended up a chemist.

The larger screen is a factor that should not be discounted. It does make it into a very nice toy indeed.

Did I hear somewhere that the reviewers were getting over 10 hours of use from it between charges? This is now starting to tempt me.

:)

Speaking of video: Apple asserts that the iPad runs 10 hours on a charge of its nonremovable battery — but we all know you can’t trust the manufacturer. And sure enough, in my own test, the iPad played movies continuously from 7:30 a.m. to 7:53 p.m. — more than 12 hours. That’s four times as long as a typical laptop or portable DVD player.

The iPad lasted 11 hours and 28 minutes, about 15% more than Apple claimed. I was able to watch four feature-length movies, four TV episodes and a video of a 90-minute corporate presentation, before the battery died midway through an episode of “The Closer.”

Some other reports have got less than 10 hours though, it may be initial battery condition is a big factor and it will average out over time. Note however you apparently need a 'full power' USB port to charge an ipad properly from one; typical laptop USB ports for example charge at a much slower rate.

Yes ten hours is great for those really long journeys.
