It's very interesting, and very good news. But I wonder what will happen to applications which rely on memory being volatile...For example, /tmp on UNIX systems typically live in RAM and are traditionally cleared because of this on a reboot, for that example it wouldn't be difficult to program this in, but could possibly throw other applications...

I guess it depends. If the memory on a chip is substantial we could see memory controllers being phased out and all of our memory being on a chip.
Though I guess it's more likely to have separate, additional RAM...
