I have just had an exciting geeky day out. I went to the Gadget show at the NEC. I even spoke to a leather catsuit clad Suzy Perry. I met a Dalek and played with an iPad.

All in all a good day.

:D

You should have gone to find Kate Russel from the BBC's Click. I think she was giving out prizes to people who found her by following her on twitter. She's never been seen in proximity to the ugly stick either.

The crowds were a bit dense for pics and I only had a phone for a camera.

I smoked my first cigarette there too. It was an electronic cigarette Image < Clicky

It sent me high for about half an hour. A bit of an acquired taste but my mate who is a smoker says it was just like the real thing.

Very clever.

Why, CC, why?

Actually, would it be possible to get 'psychologically' addicted to those things? :?

Why? Because I am very old and have never tried. What was the harm?

You certainly would get addicted. In every meaningful way these are standard cigarettes. However no carcinogens and no tar to fill up your lungs. Very very similar to a nicotine gum. It just is more realistic for the smoker and apparently (so my smoker friend says) tastes and feels like the real thing. The end of the E-Lite glows when you drag on it too. Only instead of glowing red it glows green.

Note you can blow smoke rings with it too. Only it is not smoke it is water vapour. Clever stuff.

As it contains 'real' nicotine you can be psychologically and physically addicted. The important thing is whether you can use it when flying.

I was going to go with a friend but his illness was too variable to risk going this year. Maybe next year? It is a long old trek to get there.

Also where the nicotine is derived from. As most are extracted from tobacco plants, so although the levels of some of the carcinogens would be lowered others may be concentrated due to the extraction process.

They say you can. At the stand they suggested that you smoke it in the loo to stop a fuss being made. There is not "real" smoke though so the detectors won't go off.
