The mayor of a town in Malta has called for a "phallic" sculpture displayed close to the main airport to be removed ahead of the Pope's visit this weekend.

Yeah - can’t have the Pope look on at some artwork which may (or may not) remind others of the problems with his club*.

*By “club” I meant the Catholic Church, not…

Who'd want to have a sculpture like that on the streets anyway?

Why wouldn't you? It's nice looking, good colours, actually represents something (which is more than you can say about a lot of "art") it's been there since 2006 without issue and the only reason they want it removed now is because of the visit.

Catholicism isn't about "having no sex" it's about having plenty of sex in rigidly controlled circumstances, I would have thought the Pope would appreciate the sentiment of the "fertility" of the country, rather than be offended, after all, he sees one daily in his own papal pants!!

I don't see why it should be removed just because the Pope's visiting. It's been there for 4 years, and is part of the island. If there's not been sufficient complaints for it to be pulled down since 2006, the money would be much better spent on other things. I'm sure a papal visit ain't cheap!

Perhaps they should replace it with a statue of a small boy.

they cant cover it as the Vatican has forbidden the use of condoms so the Pope will have to put up with it or turn the other cheek …

'Rumours that the Pope was inadvertently buggered by an art installation are just petty gossip...'
