Sorry, I should have said. It's a Samsung HD television and an cheap NVidea. It is connected using an SVGA cable to the VGA port on my graphics card. I've never heard of ForceWare, but I'll certainly have a look into it I'll hopefully see you on there later this week! Thanks Adam, Peter.

Have you installed the drivers off the nVidia site? That should install Forceware (or Nvidia control center as it's now called I think)? What model is it? If you say anything like Geforce 4, I'm going to come round and murder you with an axe.

Yes, I've downloaded all of the drivers off NVidea's website including their control panel. I used that to adjust the display on the television, but it never really helped unfortunately. It's an NVidea 8400GS apparently. I just chose it because it was cheap and had alright reviews Peter.

Just a further problem which I have, unfortunately.
I am trying to download some photographs from my camera, but my camera is not appearing in "My Computer" as it should. I have tried the camera on another computer, which worked fine, and tried the USB port with other devices, which worked fine.
Any ideas, please?
Peter.
Edit: Just to add that when I connect the camera, the camera thinks it's connected fine and is ready to transfer data.

Have you got a card reader? You could try plugging the memory card straight in... I do with the SD in my camera. Also, I have no idea why your TV looks so awful. Has it got like an auto adjust setting or something? Or a DVI input? Or even an S-Video. You could try them all!

Go to control panel> device manager Peter. Does it list an unknown USB device? Download appropriate drivers from the camera manufacturers site.

That's another thing. Under Vista, my card reader would read SD cards okay, but throw up some fancy message with Memory Stick cards. Under XP, my card reader refuses to read anything and pretends the slot is empty. I have tried auto-adjust, however it hasn't improved it whatsoever, unfortunately. It's also only got a VGA input for connecting the PC, so I think I'll have to live with it. It's strange how it happened as soon as I upgraded from Vista to XP! Thanks for your help, Peter.

Good idea, thanks. I've tried that but there are no unknown devices and it isn't appearing in the list. It's strange because it usually comes up exactly the same as a USB pen drive. My pen drive works fine, but the camera is being awkward. Thanks, Peter.

This might sound like a silly question but when you re-installed XP did you install the motherboard drivers?

It's not a silly question, seriously. They should ban people like me buying computer components! To answer your question, John, I have installed all of the motherboard drivers for the audio, network interface card and USB ports. I have tried the port with other devices, including an external hard drive, which performed perfectly. Thanks for your help, Peter.

How is the USB drive formatted? I don't think it would work if you'd formatted it in the Mac file system (HFS) as Windows uses NTFS.
Just a thought

The USB drive will be FAT unless Peter has formatted on his Mac, even then it might default to FAT as it will know what it's current format is...

It's a camera which I am having trouble with, actually, but I think it still applies. The camera is in FAT format, I believe. I've certainly never formatted it since I bought it, so I can only assume this. Thanks, Peter.

I assume when you say you installed the drivers for the USB ports you mean the motherboard chipset drivers? Also, for your TV issues, have a look at Ultramon That might help. here's a link: CLICKY

I think so, yes. I actually already use that software, thanks John. It is a brilliant piece of software and a must for people with dual monitors Thanks, Peter.
