I've got a 160GB iPod Classic (the first gen classic).

It's starting to play up in that the menus are ridiculously slow and when scrolling through coverflow the music stutters while the images are being loaded on it.

It says I'm using 16.6GB on it but about 1/3 of that is photos (which I never browse on the device).

Is the stuttering problem something that affects newer models?

I'm thinking of getting a 16GB Nano to replace this one.

I've been thinking of getting a small camcorder thing also which would kill two birds. It would also be a good improvement for running and listening to music.

Yeah, several times.

The stuttering during playback stops for a while but the coverflow stuttering is always there.

I had a play with an iRiver the other day, can't remember what model it was only that it was 16gb but it seemed very nice indeed. I may be biased though, my old iRiver 20gb was the best MP3 player I have ever heard. I still miss that thing now, wouldn't have changed it if the screen was still intact /cry.

I will commend these guys.

http://www.ukipodrepairs.co.uk/home

I have had two iPods repaired by them. (once a headphone jack and once a hard disc). Excellent service and they will fix almost any iPod.

It might be worth sending them an email about your Clasic.
