What i mean by emotions is that i don't feel thrilled or annoyed by Led Zep... it just doesn't provoke any reactions in me, which is why i don't think it's as good as people make it to be. I get more moved by some of my industrial songs than by most of 70's rock. also with all the different types of rock there is.. how can they end up chosing only 70's bands? no metal? no punk? no psychedelic? shove me som sex pistols in there... and some motorhead

So much of the problem with what should or shouldn't be included in a Top Ten Rock Songs poll is the nebulous definition of what 'Rock' is. I'd guess that many people would not consider The Beatles to be Rock at all; they would fall into the 'pop' category. Same for AC/DC and Motorhead who - to many - would be 'Heavy Metal'....not 'Rock' per se, even though both of these bands have said many times that they don't consider themselves to be Metal....just Rock. This poll seems to be more of a Top Ten of Classic Rock.
Classic Rock magazine often publishes polls of favourite vocalists, guitarists, etc, and there's always a load of letters in the next issue moaning about the results whether it's a Reader's Poll or, for example, singers and guitarists nominating their choices. When they did "Best Vocalist' there were quite a few complaints that Freddie Mercury won rather than a 'proper' singer like Paul Rodgers.
You can't please everybody (or indeed anybody) all the time!
My own Top Ten would have at least 4 Metallica tracks and a couple of AC/DC and a Motorhead.....no, it would have to be a Top Twenty minimum!

My knowledge of rock is shockingly under-equipped to allow me to even participate in this thread.

Would you put some system of a down or rage against the machine in there too? I see a top 100 coming along nicely Just to illustrate the idea...

I've started jotting down some ideas in my head, too.
@Zaihnne: Fancy running a big forum poll with, say, 2 weeks of nominations and then rounds after that? We haven't had one since the chocolate poll, have we?

I would suggest songs. It has the advantage that with Spotify / Youtube there isn't the whole "I've never heard / eaten / played any of these" issues that we get with most of the polls on here.

Yup. Linking to everything should be done, as JonLumb suggested, I think, so, if I were you, I'd set up a thread for nominations asking for YouTube links as well (ideally offcial videos from the publishers) and a rough plan of how you plan to run it (8-p)

More than happy to do it, really enjoyed doing the Films Poll. Need to wait for L3v to finish the games one first (although it does seem to be running rather slowly at the moment).
Might at least start a nominations thread, give as many people as much time as possible to see it.
I think it should just be the forum's all time favourite.

Oh yes, I forgot about the games one. It's my lack of games knowledge that lets me down there I only played a few games when I was younger.
