It's particularly chilling that they used his NI number to track down where he claimed benefits and re-capture him when he escaped. Why on Earth he didn't go to the police is beyond me but I guess that's the terrible thing about abusive relationships/environments. Anyone who hasn't experienced it themselves has no idea what it's like and the psychological pressure to stay where you are.

All in all a staggering case and one that's only about 30 minutes down the train tracks from where I live :shock:
