I was on PAYG until about 4 months back, or maybe a bit more, when I got the 20GBP pcm Simplicity (with free landline calls as my option).

PAYG for me with Virgin - ideal as no need to top up they just debit my bank account with what I have used - normally around £6 / m

I have always bought my own phones and used them until they basically die. Have been using them since 2000 and am now on my 3rd phone (would still be on my second but SWMBO upgraded to an iPhone recently so I now have her old one)

I'm with Orange PAYG, and the recent change to the tariff that meant I could get free interweb on my phone prompted me to investigate...

I can't even justify a monthly £10 top-up to get it. I barely spend £50 a year. Besides, my phone is rubbish.

Orange PAYG

I only use about 50p per month so it's not really worth getting a 'potency compensator' as bigD's gf put it.
