A is used in a bad way to hurt some people intentionally. B is also used in a bad way to hurt some people intentionally. A must be banned but B is fine carry on as though nothing happened.

That sentence doesn't make sense.

But replace A with the word nigger and B with baseball bat. That is what you are trying to tell me is OK?

That's my thoughts, but you can see there's going to be riots in The States in particular if it goes ahead. Kind of a shame, though. We need a magic button to force people to engage their brains and see there's nothing offensive about the context it's used in, even though nowadays the word has a lot more baggage.

I agree. The dogs name should stay even if it has different connotations now. Also they haver to have a black labrador or the reason for the dogs name would be meaningless.

I you want to hear interesting commentary on black people's use of the word 'nigger', watch Coach Carter with Sam Jackson and listen to Sucka Nigga, by A Tribe Called Quest.

The word may be acceptable to many young blacks, but that doesn't make it right. However, in terms of the movie, I don't believe things should be changed for PC reasons, but at the same time, is it that big a deal?

It is not a word that I would ever use normally, but in this context it should remain the same.

The breed, and name, of the dog is entirely secondary to the story. Personally, I wouldn't bat an eyelid either way. The dog is not the point of the tale.

Not so, Nigger was a codeword for a successful breach of the Mohne Dam. This name was chosen because Gibson's dog, a black labrador had that name, and was killed shortly before the raid. Too many people complain about historical inaccuracies and scientific implausibility in movies, so when someone wants to make an accurate film then let them.

Ahh, I have learnt something today - I knew the dogs name was Nigger, but not that it had been used as the code word.
