This has been botched from the start. What councils have done is lower mens wages to that of womens. That will result in strikes at some point. They also have compared totally different jobs as equivalent. So a dinner lady might be now regarded as the same as a dustbin man. Yet one job is dirty smelly and in all weathers and usually shift work, and the other is set hours in a kitchen. So to save money the councils have lowered mens wages to that of dinner ladies. How is that going to end well?

There will be strikes all over the country because of this. I know that the waste management staff in Brighton and Hove are close to striking over this and it is a Conservative council.

My job (In IT) is evaluated with no real regard to the technical aspects of the job. On that basis my job can be directly compared to that of a Housing Benefits Officer for example. Its a fu****g joke to be honest.

Unison have also rejected the propsals at my place of work which means it gets pushed through without their approval. So now we get a letter with a new job description / contract. We either sign it - and by doing so say we wont take any legal action???? - or dont sign it and get sacked and possibly rehired on those new terms we rejected.

Yes but if they tried to get a Housing Benefits officer to do your job then lets see how they cope. I fully agree that men and women doing the same work should get same pay but comparing housing benefits with IT is ridiculous. Men and women in IT should get the same rate, and the men and women in Housing should get the same rate. There is no comparison between housing and IT. Therefore you cannot compare those areas. Simples.

Even within the same department there could be huge differences in the quality of work which would not be taken account of.

The evaluation is based on 'role' and not 'person' too. Someone with the same job desc as me gets equal pay even if they are [LIFTED]

All this means is that the poor state of roads in Brum aren't going to get repaired. Which means I'm the one who gets shafted by this.

No incentive to do a good job. No wonder public services are failing.
