Made a cake last night for the 1st time. Well I say first time, I've used packets and stuff before. This time though I made the sponge and buttercream from scratch, rolled icing to cover (boiled Jam to seal and act as a glue first') and decorated. Not a bad effort. Havent tasted it yet though. Its for the mother-in-laws birthday tonight.

To be honest Bratty I think on the basis of what you have written before, when you 'pull someones leg' it simply looks as though you are in fact being serious.

It's not fascinating Bratty, it's communication, just the same as email and text messaging. It's about implication, 2 dimensional meaning in the first place, but also the attitude of the person writing. When people make nonsense observations it interrupts the flow of a conversation (even an off-topic one) and when it's being done deliberately to wind people up it's called trolling. It's the same effect as interrupting a real life conversation with something irrelevant, people will just stop and look at you and be irritated by your inability to behave properly in a social situation.

It's generally acceptable amongst children although their parents/present adults will make the effort to correct them so they learn the proper way to behave, when it happens in socially awkward adults it's another matter and if people as adults don't know or learn from their peers how to behave properly in those situations they will find themselves ignored a lot, or made fun of, especially if they appear to find the whole thing very funny.

Bratty, I doubt it was a joke, I think you can't accept that people do not believe something you are adamant about and are trying to backtrack.
People do take things off topic, but they generally keep it fairly related to the original topic of conversation, not linking a plot description from IMDB to symbolism on US money......

I think in this instance its going a bit too far. The "3 eggs = mark of the beast" I'm pretty sure was a light hearted dig at his own paranormal/consiracy postings if anything. Thats how I read it anyway.

I didn't say you did bring it off-topic, it was already pretty off-topic which is normal around here.

Imagine a group of people sitting around chatting about (for example) politics, all of a sudden you jump into the conversation with the words "do you think the government is using ducks to spy on everyone?" Can you see why everyone is just going to stop, stare at you, declare you mad and then ignore you?

Imagine if everytime you take part in a conversation it's with something crazy and irrelevant? Regardless of whether you think it's a joke you're going to p!ss people off eventually.

People around here make jokes all the time, they introduce irrelevancies and use the tools available to them (smilies, tags etc) to illustrate that they're making a joke if it's not totally obvious, that's why it doesn't annoy anyone. With you it's extremely difficult to tell what's a joke, what's serious, what's "just Bratty" and so people generally revert to "just Bratty" and either ignore or attempt to educate. Either way it never ends well.

Yeah I'm sure it was a joke as well, which is why I took part light-heartedly, it's the bits that follow that aren't so light-hearted.
