I'm a student, which means I drink rather a lot. Currently I'm on my second glass of wine over roast dinner. (Or third, I'm not quite sure.)

Either way, I'm quite merry. That being said, I've not had a problem with giving up alcohol nights where I have to drive (Unless it's something rather lushious, such as anything from Gwynt y Ddraig brewery.) usually by buying a pint of coke or some such, since it looks (essentially) the same as Guinness and the glass is the same.

Good luck dude.

2 days in and felling fine but a bit bored would have liked to go out to a local festival but did not fancy the Idea of going into all the different food halls and not having a drink . it's not so much drinking too much and it's not the lifestyle I mean a drink or two after work goes on every country i have ever worked,
and a couple of beers while working at night waiting for an install or data recovery to finish. Is not what I consider a problem .
I imagine the biggest problem will be boredom or my body reacting to the loss of a supplement it is used to.
any way time for another pint of con gas and ice, have a good night. ;)

I recently gave up all fizzy soft drinks, alcohol and chocolate for 30 days for a bet, I wasn"t even allowed con gas so think yourself lucky.

I'll quite happily go a lifetime without pear cider. :D

It's not wrong in Southern Spain.

That said, it's not wrong at all. What you can't pass up, is a warm summers day. How you spend it is entirely subjective - as long as you do actually make the most of it.

Welcome to Western society Bratty. Just because some people "miss" alcohol, doesn't mean they have a drinking problem. It just means that alcohol is endemic to our culture and has been so for hundreds of years. Alcohol has the same kind of hold on many people that the TV, or Facebook does. They don't need it, but would, for a time at least, miss it if it was withdrawn.

I would think that a lot more people are dependent on alcohol than would like to admit it or are even aware of it.

I don't know a single person now who doesn't regret even getting half-cut the next morning, yet every one of them a couple of days later will be telling you they can't wait to get out to do it again

The other thing that gets me is the amount of women in work who complain about getting fat and/or having no money - I always feel like suggesting they cut back on the entire bottle of wine they have every other night :o

By all means have a few and be merry, but the UK has a definite endemic problem in knowing when to stop...

Doesn't mean "they" have the problem. A lot of it is cultural.

Personally, I agree with what your saying and maybe it's just semantics to some people. But I think the lack of awareness stems from our society. We're aware as a society of the "dangers" of "drugs", but alcohol although far more dangerous in a lot of cases, gets a pass. That's what I'm talking about.

Lots of things would elicit strange feelings if withdrawn. However, that in itself doesn't mean that the individual in question has a "problem". More that we as a society do.

+1 Way too many fail to admit that they have a drinking problem.

Doesn't mean "they" have the problem. . .

Indeed. My only problem with alcohol dependency is that I keep running out :(
