Ok, as most of you know I've just had my first tattoo, and am looking to get another.

Someone has just said to me that tattoos take away from the natural beauty of the skin, and that tattoos on women are horrible.

Personally I don't agree with either statement, and think that people are free to have tattoos/piercings however they see fit.

Now I'm not saying I wouldn't judge someone by their tattoos or piercings, but I certainly wouldn't on the basis that they have one.

So what are your opinions?

Do you have any? If so, pictures please ;)

If not, why not?

Discuss.

I'm tempted to get one, but finding one I can live with for the rest of my life is proving a bit challenging, plus I reckon my mum would kick me out if I got one.....

Now, where's the nearest tattooist?

Sure, not a great pic of mine, but probably the best one online at the min:

Edit: Yeah the end of the 'Y' looks a little jittery, mainly down to me laughing while it was being done. ;)

Always thought that was a classic

I've never really seen or felt the need to get a tattoo - I guess I've just never seen an image I'd actually want on my body for the rest of my life (or fading for the rest of my life) :?

I can appreciate them though:

Excellent, any particular reason you have this Fin? And what sort of feedback do you get on it, from friends/family/colleagues?

I have 4 tattoos which I don't have any pictures of, I'll get some done and post them. I have both my ears pierced twice, I have my nose pierced and did have my left nipple pierced, but I took that out earlier this year and it's healed up.

I don't have any problems with tattoos at all, on men or women, however people choose to express their individuality is their business. I have chosen each of mine, they have a special significance to me and mark particular events in my life. I haven't finished yet, I want another, I have chosen the design and the location but I haven't found a studio I'm happy enough to have it done at yet, so I haven't got a quote or a template. You'd have to ask my fella if he thinks mine detract from my "natural beauty" *snort* I reckon he'd say they don't.

I have a number of quite heavily tattoo'd and pierced friends and I would go so far as to say that their "individual" style when it comes to body adornment actually enhances their beauty, especially in the case of my dwarven friend Stumpy who has had just about everything you can think of pierced, and used to enjoy freaking people out on their first day at work by showing them..... I'll have to find the picture I have of him so you can see.

hi all,
well heres mine,
Image
i had it done about 3 years ago now,its about 8 inches wide, the logo came from a game (unreal tournament 99),i had always loved the logo and thought it would make a great tattoo plus i have the added bonus of my 2 babies (well not babies anymore as there 10 and 13) short names (ab and lu) on the tatt as well.it cost over £200 and took the local tattoist 2 weeks to get it right before she set to work.by the way its on my lower back just above my bum.i would love to have a big cross done right up my spine and across my shoulder blades (im not religious in anyway) but i still havnt come across a design thats a bit out of the ordinary that i would like.
cheers spunky

MY gf has a sentence around her wrist, it looks like bracelet, she also has a couple more in mind, including two Welsh dragons on her torso, which could get expensive...She's also stretched her ears to take 6mm stretchers (apparently at that size they can still shrink back down)...

Me, I'm boring and have nothing...I've been told numerous times that I should get the Apple logo on the back of my neck...That came around after I started converting people when I got to uni

My brother has just had three bright stars on his chest (red yellow and blue IIRC), and Mum has just had something done...

A friend and I were saying it would be cool to have resistors or similar down your arm, as a quick ref guide...

A friend of mine who I used to be in love with has a stunning tattoo which marks a significant period of her life. Despite her boyfriend's dislike for the situation she wanted me to accompany her to get it done, as I was a small part of that period. In the end, I suggested some colour. She loved the idea, and I get to be proud of my involvement in that forever. Pretty cool, I thought.

This was last summer and I gained a new found respect for the whole situation. The artist (and I mean that word) who created it was an inspiring and dedicated guy and he answered all of our questions and was happy to openly discuss my (then) prejudices.

My friends tattoo not only enhances her natural beauty, it's totally hot! Every now and again, I reminisce about the days I used to get to see and touch it  ;)

Oh, did I mention I have a pic?

I think tattoos and/or piercings done in the right place; on the right person; by the right person; can look totally awesome!
