I totally disagree with that comment - many European countries - including Germany work with many parties forming a coalition to run the country.

Having a balanced parliament might stop some of these stupid laws getting through without proper scrutiny.

Time for PR anyway - this "first past the post" system is not democatic at all. I believe the only country in Europe still using our system is Greece!

With PR you'd almost always have a Lib Dem/Labour coalition with almost no chance of changing it.

And now for a bit of novelty. Press Association's Chris Montcrieff reports that a candidate whose surname is "Above" and whose "Other Names" are given as "None Of The" is contesting the election in Chingford and Woodford Green, the seat being defended by Iain Duncan Smith, the former Conservative leader.
Unfortunately for "Mr Above" he appears, for alphabetical reasons, at the top of the list of candidates, with no one above him.

I don't think that's a bad thing TBH. Most of the mess we're in now is because Labour had such a vast majority they could force through any hastily devised and ill-thought out law they fancied.

And if there is a Tory Majority they will slash spending to give tax cuts to the rich. Labour will tax us to maintain spending which is not so bad, but might upset the markets. A middle way is perfectly adequate. We can keep the services we want and cut where we do not want them.

That would have left Mrs Aardvark at the top of the ballot. :D

or labour will increase benefits levels to all time stupidly high.
The benefits system in the UK needs a reform. I don't think labour would do that.

I would agree that the benefits system needs reform, but the Tories are the last to reform them. They would just cut them all if they could. I have issues with some elements of tax credits but would like to see them reformed dramatically. The Liberals have some sensible policies but in a coalition they could get support for some.

The exit poll is in. It shoes the Tories will just miss out, though they could form a minority government. Lib Demand + Labour would not form a majority either.

My feeling is the country doesn't want a conservative government, but also cannot stomach the idea of another labour government.

So, is a Labour led coalition, tempered by LibDem conditional support, the best course for the country?

No. IMHO, letting either the reds or the blues into office is a Bad Thing. There's no core ideology any more, and that's why neither should be given the job.

How accurate are exit polls? If I was asked I would lie, not to hide my vote but to hopefully mislead them.

They were ~60 seats out in '92.
