was just thinking today if there would actually be any humans that would cope without reverse gear? the places where I drive I could get away with having no reverse gear as its open car parks, and where I park my car I can drive in circles kinda without needing reverse so id be fine 99% of the time, when I go to visiting towns I woudnt need reverse gear either, dunno why this strange thought come to my head but for the people on this forum im wondering where you live you would be able to manage with no reverse gear to and from from work? and places you mostly drive to? curious

Parking would be the big problem, so no I couldn't manage.

I remember on Top Gear they had a really tiny car which had no reverse, but you could just pick it up and turn it around.

I also recall my dad talking about something he owned many years ago. It had 3 forward gears and no reverse, but the timing on the engine was almost top-dead-centre so you could start it in either direction. It actually went nearly as quick backwards. Sounds scary.

Anyone with a GPS system in their car would need a reverse gear too.

Clicky.

I'd have one of these beasties.

Five gears in each direction. Best Beloved tells tales of being trained to drive one of these when he served in the Army. Apparently, it really could go as quickly backwards as it did forwards. The instructors made the trainee drivers drive at full tilt backwards aiming between two other vehicles.

Needless to say the other vehicles were severely knocked about!

Yes, I don't drive to work so I'd be fine
Even the bus I catch doesn't reverse, there is no need to...

It was. I provided a Wikipedia link for more information about the machine. Interesting to note the engines were originally built by Rolls-Royce, and the suspension was designed by Alex Issigonis, who is more famous for designing the Mini.

And the Morris Minor before that. Let’s not forget the Minor.

Nope, couldn't manage without reverse in Cornwall - some lanes are too narrow and if you met a car you'd be f***ed. Also, to park on my drive it's a lot easier to do it in reverse.
