 | | | | Quote: Queen guitarist Brian May and an array of his showbiz pals have filmed a tongue-in-cheek video to highlight the issue of fox-hunting and blood sports in the run-up to next week’s general election. Come inside to watch it – and be sure to check out the star turns from Patrick Moore and Coleen Nolan! In the video May pokes fun at the three political party leaders’ failure to get to grips with the economy and calls on the public to use their vote to support the fox-hunting ban. The video also features the likes of Francis Rossi, Joe Elliott, Tony Iommi and Taylor Hawkins. It forms part of May’s ‘Save Me’ campaign to prevent the return of legalised blood sports in the British countryside. May says: “This video is meant to be fun, but of course there is a serious message behind it. “It’s incredible how many people have no idea that [Conservative leader] David Cameron and his gang stand for the brutality of hunting with dogs, and are intent on repealing the Hunting Act ‘as a priority’ if they are elected. “Fox-hunting and other blood sports have no place in today’s society and, in the ‘Save Me’ campaign, we’re asking people to make their vote count to keep it this way.” Go here for more info about Brian May’s ‘Save Me’ campaign: http://www.save-me.org.ukWatch the video – and check out May’s interesting new hairstyle! – below. | | | | |

Fox hunting should remain banned, though I expect that it will be one of the first things that the Tories will try and repeal as soon as possible. The usual rubbish about Fox hunting first then they will ban angling has not been born out. If you hunt or fish and eat then that is natures way. I have no problem with that form of hunting.

I have no problem with fox hunting if they are a pest in a specific area. It is making sport of it that I have issue with.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

Shooting is the only option for me. No using dogs.

A friend of mine lives on a farm, they used to use the hunt to cull the fox population but now shoot them. Every time a fox is shot they have to go a check its dead, most times its not and requires re-shooting. In his opinion the hunt causes the fox less pain (more fear however) as once a whole pack of dogs reaches the fox it only takes seconds.

Well clearly he is a lousy shot. In Sweden before you go hunting you have to undertake an annual shooting test to ensure that you can kill cleanly with a single shot. You can take the test three times If you still have not passed you are banned from hunting for a year, till the next test. We could do with that here.

I'm not going to get involved in all this bollocks, but I would point out that anglers throw the fish back.

Not always, I throw back shark, barracuda and GTs but Spanish mackerel and Tuna are keepers.

I'm talking about river angling though, which is the popular sport that's compared to hunting, seems equally as bad, but is sacrosanct as it's a working class sport.

I should have mentioned that. It is another reason why Angling is not like hunting.

Why not just lay a couple of bullets in the animal to begin with, rather than just shooting once then walking over to shoot again? Either that or aim properly - as someone else said.

I'm a staunch supporter of the ban.
The arguements for the "sport" are infantile, weak and ignorant. Don't get distracted by the hunters claiming two seperate things
1. it a sport built in to british culture and society. 2. they are a pest and the popluation needs to be controlled.
which is it? sport or pest?
If it's a pest then proper culls can easily be achieved in the same way badger populations are controlled. If it is a sport then clearly these people have no objections to dog fighting, bull fighting or bear baiting all of which are cruel, banned and an affront to any one with a sense of compassion or morality.
The tories have slipped in the hunting ban into a large repeal bill to hide it - oh did I mention that Mrs Camerons Step father is massively in favour of repeal? hmmmm....
The whole thing stinks and the Tories should be ashamed, but they aren't they will just carry on regardless of the fact that over 70% of the britsh population supports the ban. Now thats a majority!

With fish you either throw them back or eat them. Fox hunting just involves ripping another mammal to shreds.

After the first hit it is probably laying on the ground where another shot would not be possible.

from what i remember you only have to take the test once and then unless your caught doing something naughty you never need to re-qualify, i was wolf hunting in the winter with the girlfriends relatives up in Rånas, but one thing i like here is this little rule, you miss you go find it Wounded animals The Swedish hunting laws are very strict, particularly regarding wounded animals. When hunting ungulates it is a requirement that a specially trained tracker dog can be available within two hours. For certain bird species it is a requirement that a dog is present during the shoot.
