Ok, so I've got £80 birthday money to spend and the question of a watch has reared it's head - again.

I'm looking for an everyday watch which can take a beating when I'm sailing, messing around on the beach, or whatever. But also fit most outfits without a second thought for regular use. So I've decided that Rescue Orange, whilst very cool, is slightly impractical. Having tried on and looked at several G Shocks over the past 13mths I recently encountered the GW-M5600BC. The BC stands for Black Composite, as the watch is non-reflective black and uses a composite plastic/stainless steel bracelet. I really like the look of it and having tried the watch on briefly, it's extremely comfortable and appears superior to a regular resin band to me. Finally, it has a negative display i.e. the digits and background are the reverse of what you'd expect for LCD. Here's a pic:

I think it's a great-looking, subtle watch. And has all the functions I want. It's also solar powered, so should last bloody ages without a battery change.

Here's my problem (don't I always have one?!). I'm not sure about the negative display. I think it looks super cool, but I'm concerned about at-a-glance legibility. The regular 5600 appears easier to read at a glance. Here's a pic of the two modules, side-by-side:



After dark, there's obviously an EL backlight, but during poor daytime visibility, or in the middle of a race or some other frantic setting, I think the regular one is clearer. I have called Tiktox and they have offered to swap the modules to achieve this:



The regular 5600 is about £80
The BC is £105
The BC with positive display swap out is £120.

I was hoping to spend no more than about £100 originally.

Thoughts?

If you simply must get a digital watch, then negative display FTW!
If you like it, and you want it, then just get it.
Don't give a stuff what we think.
Just do it.

It's ludicrous I know. I should just be able to make a decision, but when it comes to buying things, I'm useless. Always have to over think it.

Leeds, I'm sure that'd have it's merits, but I wouldn't last me decades and as I have nobody to enjoy it with, not gonna happen.

Mark, I'm getting a digital watch, because for everyday use it's quicker and more functional. The composite bracelet is awesome and sets it apart from just about EVERY other digital watch for both looks and comfort. So that is a must. So it's just the displays I can't decide on. The functionality is identical.

I'd go with the negative display and the composite bracelet as well.

I love my new watch.
However, the thing I miss is luminous hands.
I still think it's awesome. £100 on Amazon, reduced to £40. Tidy.
