Any particular reason you even need flip4mac? VLC FTW!

I have to say I prefer VLC as well.

I have the free flip4mac installed - I believe iTunes needs it for AVI files, but I prefer VLC as well. If I want to convert AVI's to MP4's I use Handbrake.

Flip4Mac: because Microsoft can’t be arsed to write a Mac version of their media player any more.
To answer the question: no. I’ve not come up with the need to use it recently.

There's also perian, which is a QT plugin that seems to handle an awful lot of stuff. I still see flip4mac occasionally when I try to view WMV files, but perian seems to allow quicktime to handle all the AVI files perfectly..

The only caveat I have with Perian is that it borked something that Toast was using. YMMV, of course, just my experience.

I've got Perian as well and have never noticeably had any problem with it but I don't have Toast so I can't comment on the Prof's issue.

They wanted flip4mac to be able to edit WMV files. I think if you buy the professional version it should give you access to edit files in quicktime. Anyway the guy hasn't been in touch so I guess he's using it ok

All too often with wmv files they are unwatchable and bloated. They needed more processor power than an avi.
