I suspect many of the celebrity cases are where the woman in question realises she's been a bit of a slapper and starts lying to herself to begin with tbh.

I asked the other half about this, as she was raped aged 10, so can provide insight from the other side of the perspective. She was in agreement that pre-trial these things should most definitely be kept anonymous, for the reasons previously outlined.
Her thoughts on what should be done to those convicted however were decidedly more violent, and I believed involved dangling from testicles etc.

I have only discovered one reason why defendants should not be kept anonymous until sentenced (if sentenced, that is). With a name, police find it easier to get witnesses (and possibly other victims) to come forward. One alternative, which I believe is used in some countries, would be to automatically let the defendants remain anonymous, unless the judge or jury believes there is reasonable ground to release the name. Ofc, there may be a problem that this would be more likely to happen for defendants for whom there is less evidence against, and so, presumably, more likely to be innocent, but still, I that system would be an improvement. And the Idea that giving them anonymity is 'an insult' is bollocks. The only insult is the fact that the trial by media seems to be the only one that matters for most people.

Once convicted then anonymity should be withdrawn. If the defendant has not been convicted but arrested on a number of occasions, for similar offences then maybe then the person should be named to encourage others to come forward. Though maybe not even then.

To be honest, this backlash smells a lot of a pseudo-feminist man-bashing exercise.
Anonymity won't make the blindest bit of difference to the conviction rate but it will make a difference to the acquitted.

The problem is that simply being anti men is not going to help them. The majority of men also despise rapists, but attacking all of us does not help the women's cause.

Once convicted they should be locked up in a womens prison ........ let the girls extract retribution on them.

Many of the men might look at that as a challenge.

We live in a system on innocent till proven guilty and I think that for seroius allegations one should be anonymous until guilty. These allegations can kill your life and what people tend to do " oh you hear what happened with daves trial, terry,"
"well he managed to get off"
not he wasn't guilty.
so there should be protection.

The issue should be for all people without a conviction. They should have anonymity until they have been found guilty. No matter what the crime. It seems fair.
