I downloaded it the other day and it had all my games etc... on there. Only Torchlight and Portal available for Mac at the moment. I downloaded Torchlight and had a quick play and it's just as good on my MBP as it is on my PC I'll be getting rid of my PC soon I think

Hmm... dunno but it took about an hour of total d/l time on my 10meg connection (but rarely got over 600k).

Steam reports the local disk usage for portal mac is just about 4GB. I'd assume the download is compressed so you can maybe knock 10-20% off that. If you really need to know I can trash the local copy and download it again..

According to a guy at work, ~5GB. He believes the source engine is re-usable, so other source games will be less big.

4Gb is enough to cause you to go over many ISPs peak time limits. So you need to time it well.

I haven't played it yet though It finished downloading late last night. Gaming on a Mac... doesn't that complete the list of "reasons" that PC lovers hate Macs? 1. Mouse with more than one button. check 2. None proprietary components. check 3. Gaming. check Any more that anyone can think of?

If Portal works on the Mac then why doesn't HL2 and all it's other derivatives? I thought that they all used the same source engine so technically it's just putting different level/character models into the same game?
Surely the conversion to get Portal to work should mean that the others work also?

Mostly. They would still have to recompile the apps and do some quality control checking though, so it's not a 'click and go' operation. IIRC they going to be releasing Mac versions of their other apps over time.

I really, really love the fact that I only have to pay once and I can play it on both platforms!
I just hope that when Civ V is released in the Autumn that it will be Mac-compatible too!
