I actually think that looks tolerable

Even though they ruin it slightly with the middle of the road pop song that they always use in trailers these days - it's as overdone as the slow-mo walking group shot that nearly ruins action films

Sorry, back to the issue... Jersey Girl is the only rom-com I've ever seen that didn't make me wanna smash something and it actually made me laugh a few times, though very few people liked that film anyway

Have you ever seen a rom-com that you'd actually recommend to someone?

George Carlin makes me laugh in that film, and I think very few people liked it because I don't know many people who have seen it

Hitch (Will Smith) was okay.

There's one called, I think, Intolerable Cruelty which is a pretty good film despite being a romcom. Even more surprising given it's got Catherine Zeta Jones in it. And I suppose you would have to say some of the 'golden age' ones are decent (e.g the ones with the likes of Cary Grant or Audrey Hepburn in) even if they've dated somewhat. Could you call 'Some Like It Hot' a rom-com, for example?

Just had a look on Wikipedia to see if they had a list of rom-coms. From said list I enjoyed these (but I'm not a fan of rom-coms as such):

Pretty Woman (1990), Groundhog Day (1993), Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994), As Good as It Gets (1997). That's it.

Looks like rom-coms have the highest percentage of dross of any film genre.

Loads. But good is a subjective word around these parts and I'm not sure I'm in the mood for another everything vs oke debate.

There are tons of awful ones and the most recent one I watched was Catch and Release. Even Kevin Smith was dire in it and the leads had zero chemistry. But there are plenty of good ones and the occasional great. When Harry Met Sally is a classic. These days the formula has shifted more toward com than rom and for some that's a welcome change. SATC was in fact a pretty good film, both doing the series justice and being accessible to a wider audience with plenty of laughs and a delightfully heart-warming core. Judd Apatow treads the line between gross-out comedy and moving romance very well and Knocked Up is a great example of that.

There are others. Loads of them.

There's a couple of French films that are worth a look; Priceless, with Audrey Tatou and The Closet (le Placard) which is brilliant. Amelie, too. All better than anything the USA has to offer.

There's far to many excellent rom-coms to list. And one excellent zom-rom-com.

The french do Rom Coms better than the US. Though there are a number of watchable Rom Coms, some can be dire.

Priceless is very good. The wife and I really enjoyed that film.
