There was soooo much fuss when the original iPhone was known not to have a replaceable battery.

I have just thrown away a Nokia because the new battery would have cost double the cost of a more advanced phone.

So, who here has replaced or needed to replace an iPhone battery? I intend to keep mine for a while and resist the temptation of the fourth gen. iPhone. Thus I would be interested to know how long it will be before my battery becomes U/S


I am also interested if you are an non iPhone user. How often (if ever) have you replaced the battery? Would you with hindsight swap your replaceable battery for a sealed unit with longer battery life?

When I bought my current phone the battery would go dead after half a day of not very much use after about 3 weeks.

I got it replaced by the shop and now it lasts over 3 or 4 days with average use.

I bought the phone over 18 months ago and I only ever charge it when it goes flat.

My iPhone 3G was bought from new (I never bought it and I don't know when they were released) and the battery still lasts about 4 days between charges.

I've never replaced a batter on a mobile, but as my Omnia hasn't been used for a couple of months and I am thinking of giving it to the father in law I might need to replace it... What do you guys think? Would leaving it turned off for that long have a detrimental effect, (as in will it still hold a charge)?

That should be fine as long as you do a charge cycle thingy.

i.e. turn it on and keep it on until the battery dies completely then charge it overnight (8 hours) should be back up to normal usage then.

Battery life is very inconsistent at the moment, sometimes my iPhone will go a couple of days between charges, other times, the battery is nearly dead by lunch time. Obviously, when playing games, it sucks the battery quickly dry, but even when I don't, the battery can quickly disappear, just lying on my desk.

One of the worst battery suckers, causing me to recharge my phone 3 times a day, is Evernote - which I have been using to do an inventory of IT equipment at work. Using Evernote to take images of the asset tags and the serial numbers of devices has saved a load of time, but Evernote - using the camera, then trying to load the images into the cloud - really puts a drain on battery performance. I could do with a couple of spare batteries for my iPhone at the moment...

Why throw it away? You could have traded it in for cash with a mobile recycling firm and it's better for the envoironment.

I had a spare battery for one of my older Nokias. I swapped them around regularly which took about 0.001 seconds to do because it slid on the back. That way, I always had a spare charged pack with me in case I was away from the mains and had a lot of talking to do.

I'd like one for my new Nokia, but I can't justify it now since it's hopefully being replaced with a smart phone fairly soon. My problem with most phones I've had is that the standby time is fantastic, but they all seem to run out after about 5 hours of actually using them...

My iPhone will be 2 years old in a couple of months.

I've not replaced the battery, and don't feel the need to. Infact, I've never replaced the battery in any phone.
