BIRTHS to women over 40 have trebled in the last 20 years as men continue to lower their standards, according to latest figures.

New statistics suggest that if the trend continues, by 2030 nursing homes will have to start providing creche facilities and wheelchair accessible changing tables.

Dr Martin Bishop, of the Institute For Studies said: "In the 1970s there was no need to hump older ladies as Britain was awash with scantily-clad young nurses with saucy giggles.

"Uncomplicated fun was just a swanee-whistle slide away, as long as you could avoid being interrupted by Hattie Jacques.

"But nowadays men are so frightened of inadvertently waking up next to a school satchel that they're doing the grey fandango to avoid spending five years picking broken glass out of their dinner."

Bishop stressed that the increasing awfulness of teenage girls is also encouraging men to start a family with women who do not need ID to buy glue.

He said: "Most women under the age of 25 are a screeching combination of Southern Comfort and Living TV. All of a sudden liver spots seem infinitely preferable to a butterfly tattoo just above the arse."

Advances in nutrition and plastic surgery have also meant that older women no longer have to wait for the combination of excessive alcohol, desperation and the nightclub closing in 10 minutes to find a father for their children.

Bishop added: "Catherine Deneuve has started to complain about gypsies and Susan Sarandon keeps forgetting her teeth but you obviously still would."

Now, that's a spoof article from The Dailymash, but I think what it's joking around has a lot of truth to it. Discuss...

I suspect there's a large part of it that's 'you're more attracted to people around the same age as you' and it's by no means exclusive but I come into contact with a lot of people in the 18-25 age range as part of my job and frankly there's a large chunk of them I wouldn't go anywhere near on a personal level. Really not very pleasant people. I know it's the function of the young to upset their elders but there's a difference between youthful rebellion and just being a pretty crap human being.

As far as 'lowering their standards' maybe the reverse is actually true? Maybe blokes are less willing to get involved with any old female and are a bit more picky so it takes a bit longer? I'm pretty sure I've got more selective as I've got older.

People live longer, more people are career oriented now so want to get established before taking time off to pop one out

Might just be older couples

And anything it better than a butterfly tramp stamp, arse antlers, whatever you want to call it.

Luckily that standard alone rules out ~50% of the women in Newcastle

I don't meet many women my own age who are single, tbh. Or attractive.

I'm not, nor have I ever been, quite one with the ladies. Lots of female friends, yes, just not many lovers.
Because I've always been very fussy, and as you inevitably get less tolerant of other people's [LIFTED] as you get older, I foresee a future or polishing the car and feeding the cat.
Which might sound very euphemistic, and possibly is.

I think that it might be down to the fact that women when they get older get more realistic. I was discussing with a friend an article about what women want. It said a salary over £50000 a year, driving a silver mercedes, and so on. That really cuts the odds down quite considerably. What if you do not like mercedes and particularly silver? They are simply unrealistic. Maybe as they hit 40 they get desperate. So ditch the pill, hit the bottle (beer googles) and go off to Grab-A-Grannie night and party like its 1999. :D

It wouldn't at all surprise me if women got less picky as they got older but men got more picky. Nature is apt to do those kinds of things :).

As to the £50K + a mercedes thing. There's one bloke I know who fits that. Sadly for the female population he's.. um... not interested in women at all, of you get my meaning. Also, let's be honest here guys, if you met a woman and you asked her what she wanted in a man and the first thing she mentioned was a salary level, you'd run for the hills if you had half an ounce of sense.

You would be amazed how many women on Match and other websites have a minimum salary requirement and that is without Golddigger.com. To be honest any woman who is mercenary like that will probably leave the instant life gets tough. I agree that if they have such a requirement that they are not worth bothering about.

I was concentrating on work, when I was younger. It wasn't until I had missed my 20s, that I suddenly realised there was live outside of work. That was when I started looking...

Younger women were often "cute", but empty. They had little or no personality and most wanted to get drunk and have sex... That wasn't something that interested me, well, the second half, sure. ;) But I wanted somebody to talk to, to go out with, to do things with. That meant somebody my age or older.

As has been mentioned, finding somebody 30+ and single wasn't easy. They were either married (or in a relationship) or there was a damned good reason why they were single! One was psychotic, I was lucky to get away from that one!

Now, a decade later, I have found somebody my own age and we are having a wonderful time - although no more children are planned, she has 2 and I don't want to be over 60 when my kid graduates school!

Yes many younger women might be shallow and dull, but then they can be fun for a while. Though once they get older they do get a real personality.

big_D comments sound very much like my own - yes I've met plenty of women but most think its good to get totally smashed on a Friday night - not my scene at all thanks.

All the other's I have met are either married or in a relationship or, to be frank, very attractive but not very bright.

I can see me being another ProfessorF and polish the car and do the gardening my old age - would be nice to meet someone though.

I would agree. I have done the drinking and getting smashed and ended that stupidity in my late teens.

As for attractive but dim women. I have met a few of those. I went out with one who was so dim she asked me about everything. While it was nice to be considered a sage after about twenty minutes it wore, as it was not anything supremely complex but simply everything. An old boyfriend wanted her back I did not intervene. Poor sod.

I wonder if there's a correlation to the time at which 'MILF' entered modern vocabulary? ;)

Dunno, but I remember reading that it's now the biggest genre in porn :)

In all seriousness, I really am the sort of person with more interest in the articles when it comes to scantily-clad women in mags (of any hue), despite being as horny as any other bloke

Take FHM even, identikit Hollyoaks-types in poses that are rarely sexy, and/or covered in gold paint or glitter - WTF? :?

There's a thought, the X404 photography collective should put themselves forward for the job :D
