I am surprised that Jackson is not directing it instead. He would be able to carry on just as easily.

He's busy doing the Dambusters, but if the delays continue because of MGM then he may have an opportunity.

Not to mention Tintin, which IIRC also has GDT working on it...

If it means Del Toro can get on with Hellboy 3 then I don't mind. I think the whole hobbit thing is a bit of a waste of time. It's not even going to be in 3D

Will Peter Jackson direct The Hobbit?

Peter Jackson may step in and direct the film adaptation of The Hobbit.

With Guillermo Del Toro departing the project thanks to its laboured and seemingly never-ending pre-production, Lord Of The Rings director Jackson could take the project on for himself.

Talking to The Dominion Post in New Zealand, Jackson said:

“If [directing the films is] what I have to do to protect Warner Bros’ investment, then obviously that’s one angle which I’ll explore…The other studios may not let me out of the contracts.”

Those other contracts include Tintin 2, which he would direct in 2011 with Steven Spielberg producing.

Jackson remains positive that The Hobbit will eventually be made once MGM’s financial crisis comes to an end, the director sayig:

“I just don’t know now until we get a new director. The key thing is that we don’t intend to shut the project down

“We don’t intend to let this affect the progress. Everybody, including the studio, wants to see things carry on as per normal. The idea is to make it as smooth a transition as we can.”

Richard Starkings talks Elephantmen movie

Richard Starkings has spoken out about the movie adaptation of his Elephantmen comic book series.

The series, which is published under Image Comics, is set two hundred years in the future where human-animal hybrids are being bred in North Africa. The resultant Elephantmen are trained as soldiers and killers, and are at the centre of a war between the MAPPO corporation and the U.N.

Discussing the adap with DS at the MCM Expo, Starkings revealed that the film will be a mix of live action and CGI.

"It may even involve men in suits because they did it really well in Where the Wild Things Are," he said.



"I'm not precious - I trust the producers - but I did hold out. I had offers for standard cell animations, but I didn't want it to be dumbed down. I wanted it presented as a heavy, science fiction, futuristic, dark fantasy.

"It's in my contract that I get to write the story treatment. I didn't really want to write a screenplay because I'm so involved with putting out the comic book and I didn't want it to slow me down."

A release date has yet to be set for Elephantmen, and no director is currently on board.

Reportedly Gilroy will stray from the novels this time around (even though the title Legacy follows Ultimatum in the book series), creating his own adventure with a rumoured South America location.
