I have a large Mag light in the bedroom - primary for light if we had a power cut but as a lump of metal filled with batteries it would make a good club if needed

If it's 18" long its not a katana, its a wakizashi. Generally preferred to the katana when fighting indoors because swinging big swords around in the house is a bit impractical. /pedant.

katana is a single sided curved blade length as required or made … 18" is a very handy size for close combat …
