Tomorrow I will be going to see Ross Noble. A comedian of total utter genius and totally totally nuts.
SO I was wondering who other people think are great at stand up?

I voted pie/cheese/spam, because they're all good.

I was going to suggest Gordon Brown, but then thought better of it. :D

Bart Simpson, though I believe he doesn't perform his own material. (8+)

Same as for the same reason.

There are two people who voted other, but haven't made a comment.

I voted Other, partly because none of my 3 favourites are on your list, and partly because I've never heard of some of those people. I do like Eddie Izzard, but my fav of all time is Billy Connolly, closely followed by Dylan Moran, Michael McIntyre & Lee Evans. We've just recently seen a DVD of Eddie Izzard for the first time and it was quite funny so I'm willing to explore further, but I've never heard of Peter Kay (unless he's the skinny scottish "artist" looking guy who's on QI sometimes, or is that Phil Kay?)

I don't know who Ross Noble is either, but I hope you enjoy yourself.

Edit: I'm getting to it JV!!

The best one I've seen live in recent years is Tim Minchin.

Also Alan Carr is really annoying at stand up (although he's ok in QI) but I did see a guy on "Live at the Apollo" called Jason Statham and he was pretty funny too.

Well do it quicker woman! :P

Peter Kay is the rotund northern comedian who's live gigs are on TV occasionally. It might be me but he doesn't seem to do a hell of a lot these days, and watching the same stuff over and over gets a bit tiresome.

I love watching Bill Bailey, I prefer the odd, eccentric, yet clever material, and he's great live, been to see Tinselworm in November 2007, and went to see his guide to the orchestra last October in London (same one which was shown last Saturday on BBC2).
I've also been watching Michael McIntyre recently, I've watched the same DVD about five times in the last month and still laugh at all the jokes...
And I saw Rhod Gilbert on the Apollo the other week, I laughed my head off all the way through his act, he was brilliant, can't wait for him to bring out a DVD.

Peter Kay, is by far my favourite. People will probably question my decision, but there's just something about him, anything he says makes me laugh.

Plus, he sent me a birthday card for my birthday last year. :D

There are so many good ones, especially in the past.

Robin Williams (I had some videos of his stand-up from the late 80s in 'Frisco and New York, truly excellent and had me rolling around the floor.

Eddy Murphy was also good. In fact the whole Saturday Night Live, including Dan Akroyd et al, from the early to mid 80s.

Billy Conolly is also excellent.

I like Lee Evans as well

I don't like a lot of modern stand-up, it seems to just be embarassing, rather than funny...

Mario Barth can be funny, Markus Maria Profitlich can be truly excellent as well, Otto (some of his earlier stuff) is brilliant too.

As a comedian would it have been funnier if he had sent you a birthday card for Christmas? ;)

Ed Byrne: saw him at the Brussels comedy club last year and he was simply outstanding. Milton Jones is always good value.
