Anyone see the results of the Portugal friendly yesterday? Drew 0-0 with Cape Verde, currently ranked 117th in the world!

I might be sticking a fiver on Argentina if I bet with my head and a fiver on England if I bet with my heart. I know the argies didnt qualify that well but I have a sneaky feeling about them. Argentina are 8-1 with Ladbrookes.

Funny watching England play last night, you could tell no one wanted to get injured..... so the game was a little lacklustre imo.

England Team prediction for Saturday:

Hart.

Johnson, Terry, King, A.Cole.

Lennon, Gerrard, Lampard, J.Cole.

Rooney
Heskey (Though I would pick Crouch).

England win 2-0 but make hard work of it.

Think Ashley Cole needs someone like Joe Cole who will tuck in and let him overlap to get the best out of him.

OK, well, going by the stats no European team has ever won a world cup played outside of Europe.

After a few more investigations my prediction is that the stats say the winner will be from 1 of these 4:

Brazil, Mexico, Argentina or Uraguay.

(if all are fit)....

James

Johnson Terry King A.Cole

Lennon Lampard Barry J.Cole

Gerrard

Rooney

Gerrard supporting Rooney in essentially a 5 man midfield with Barry dropping back to help out in defense.

Or put Gerrard where Barry is and put Heskey up front with Rooney for the most predictable team!

Capello's quite conservative IMO, and will thus go for as close to the qualifying first 11 as he can, given several players are/aren't fit/available. That probably means

Green
Johnson King Terry A.Cole
Lennon Gerrard Lampard J.Cole
Heskey Rooney

True- but the last time England played the World Cup in a country where English was the first language was....1966 I think.

Wow, I have to compliment you on your ability to stretch possibilities. :D

Oh yeah, we didn't make it to the USA world cup did we.

Interestingly all world cups have been won by teams who have a manager native to their country...

And interestingly all World Cups have been won by teams who got out of the group phase and then didn't lose another match (even on penalties).

Funnily enough I think it's also been won by teams that have scored more goals than the teams they've been playing.

There's a pattern there, I'm sure of it.

These vuvuzelas are already doing my nut in.

Hopefully when England play 'The Great Escape' will drown any that are there out.

South Africa are playing pretty deep, it's pretty much all Mexico at the moment.

OK, that freaked me out. Went to the BBC's web site to check the score and there's a link that says 'if you want to watch the match live click here to go to ITV.COM'. That's just not right.
