Sony are planning on launching a new AVCHD-HD video camera in the autumn.
The camera boasts a 24x16mm sensor (An Exmor-APS HD-CMOS sensor) and can use the Sony-Minolta E-Mount lens format. With an adapter (LA-EA1), it can also use the lenses from the Sony Alpha series.
The E-Mount is also used by the new NEX-5 and NEX-3 SLR-less semi-professional cameras, they also use the same HD-CMOS 24x16mm sensor.
Sony say, that the introduction of the new, larger sensor, used in this new camera, opens up the possibilities of using different lenses to enable the use of depth of field sharpness type effects and is for the more demanding amateur videographer.
