Okay so I voted...

Microsoft OS general stuff - I work in IT support, and the systems we use here are all MS based, so general knowledge is possibly key. Apart from the only we we do apparently turn it off and back on again.

Microsoft Network Administration, SBS, Exchange, Policies - I take control of the server base here at my work, it's a tough job. We've got a new system coming in place now, and out biggest server is going awol due to obscene usage.

Microsoft Office, Excel, VBA - I think this was fudnamentally completed in GCSE and A Level?

Networking, routers, VPN - I pretty much taught myself how to do this over the years, of having crappy AOL internet, and the wonderful help of Wiki and Google. Who needs Uni?

Web coding, PHP, Java, AJAX, CMS -Yep, another self taught element, but if you need to know anything about php, I'm your girl.

Flash, Graphic Design - I torrented photoshop and paintshoppro about 7 years ago, i know ever little detail about graphic design. Flash, I'm not so hot on.

Data Recovery - I worked in a PC shop for work experience in school. I was given the data recovery job. Took them an hour to show me. It isn't as difficult as people think.

Something I've missed out due to polling restrictions - General building, hardware and software. I don't go out of the house without my mini screwdriver set!

Building PC's.

Everything on the list, except Flash / Graphic Design (why are they lumped together? They are two very different disciplines).

Plus, probably a fair bit that isn't on there.

I've worked on dozens of different platforms over the years, working as analyst, designer, programmer, tester, project manager, system administrator, help desk, web developer, quality assurance expert, security testing/advisor, product evaluator, hardware maintenance and assembly. I can do a bit just about everything.

Currently working as a PHP/HTML/CSS web developer, but switching to system administrator in a month or so.

I voted "other" - I'm by no means a master but I like to add my 2 pence to CAD/BIM query threads whenever they surface, which I guess means I should also put my architectural aspect down here aswell - but the number of forumites posting queries about planning law and such is quite low - oh and I like and know a bit about AV (hifi 1.01, surround sound technologies, speaker design theory, etc) and I always like the chance to offer constructive criticism on anything to do with aesthetics.

Not when I was at school. Wasn't invented. Spreadsheets with VBA and Access type stuff can be very complicated, and is certainly the sort of thing which people have posted for help about.

Generally speaking, I am a hardware/Windows PC guy with some home networking thrown in.

I have used PCs since 1994 and the days of MS-DOS and Windows 3.11 (and I still am if you check my sig) and I can remember (without much fondness) the ISA slot.

As I look after my systems, or try to, my troubleshooting experience is limited, but I am not afraid to get under the bonnet and get dirty and I can often be found poking around in the Windows Registry where mere mortals fear to tread.

As I don't work in the industry, however, I don't have that nose for troubleshooting that experienced PC techs do.

I am currently (still) working through studies for the Comp TIA A+ certificate, but I got really bogged down and fed up with the Windows install/configure/maintain/troubleshoot part but I am now onto I/O followed by video, audio, networking and other good stuff. so I might be a qualified tech one day, which is merely (atm) another string to my bow.

I know little bits about lots of stuff.

I know my way around Windows OS's fairly well (can even remember - sort of - how to set up autoexec.bat & config.sys to get Elite running on Win 95 ), but not the deeply complex stuff.

I can design and throw together a network of smallish scale and minimal complexity.

I know enough about linux to get it installed and running, and can even beat it into submission enough to run my ancient TNT2 graphics card. I still consider myself to be very much a linux n00b, though.

I'm the unofficial IT genius at work, and manage the SBS server here, fairly competently. Downtime in the last six months has been less than ten minutes. Again, though, I tend not to delve too deeply. I have also installed and configured the BES (Blackberry) server at work.

Programming languages I know nothing about; I could probably manage to knock out a basic website in static HTML, but it'd suck.

I can build computers no problem, but as mentioned before, that's not really much of a skill these days.

The funny thing is, for a lot of things, if you're just dabbling, you don't need the in-depth level of knowledge that you used to. These days if I get a problem that I don't know anything about, a quick (or maybe not so quick) google session can fill in the gaps in my knowledge enough to solve the problem. If you're doing it professionally though, there's no substitute for proper learning!

I can also weld (badly), rebuild an engine, and tune and balance twin SU carburettors using nothing but my ear and a pair of pliers. But those options weren't on the list!

I generally work with Macs but as I am the only support person in my office I do a bit of everything from servers, networks, telecoms, printers and general if it's broke Carolyn might be able to fix it.

I've been working in IT for nearly 15 years so have picked up quite a lot of experience along the way.

JJ - There wasn't a "Techy Thing Go *BEEP*" option!!

I'm not a tech person, my Mister is the resident IT Genius and although sometimes I wish I knew a bit more and could help out when things go wrong, for the mostpart my expertise lies elsewhere.

I voted "Something I've missed...".

Essentially, I do so many different things I cannot say I have a special expertise in any one of them.

I guess the good thing is I get paid to do so many different things, so people obviously appreciated my broad spectrum of expertise.

Should see the VBA stuff I did at work (well you can't but...you know ), had an awesome way to mass generate work for me and automatically register it in a database so I got the credit for it too, own about half of my teams tests in the system now

Procrastination.
