Yet he is not alone in his blissful ignorance. Ask many teenagers today and they would have no idea of him either. Poor parenting or teaching. Neither are stimulating the kids minds to find out these things.

I second this as it seems an extremley preposterous claim, I learned all about the romans in school not presidents, Im not interested in most things that are American so Im not surprised that I dont know over half of them. American "culture" and history and their films they make bore me. May have worded this wrong but also the fact that most people here are most probably "westernised" whereas I am "easternised" as I am much more interested in arabic/asian/Indian presidents and celebs over there ;)

Teddy Roosevelt is 100% awesome.

“While he was out West, some douchebag named Mike Finnegan and his gang stole TR's boat. Instead of crying like a girl about it, Roosevelt pursued them for two weeks through the Dakota Badlands, kicked their asses, handed them over to the authorities and got his boat back.”

"While campaigning for a third term, Roosevelt was shot by a madman and, instead of treating the wound, delivered his campaign speech with the bleeding, undressed bullet hole in his chest."

“As President, Roosevelt settled strikes, broke up powerful trusts, built the Panama Canal, desegregated Japanese schoolchildren in California, fought to preserve the independence of South American countries from Europe and worked to conserve the American outdoors by commissioning numerous state parks. He also invited Booker T. Washington to chill at the White House, marking the first time a black man had ever eaten dinner as an official guest at the White House. ”

“He was the youngest person to ever become a state representative for New York when he was elected at age 23. For reference, I spent the majority of my 23rd year drunk on a couch eating chips, playing Halo and watching SeaLab 2021.”

I would not expect anyone to know lot about him. Just that he was a US president and that would be it. Just like I would not expect everyone to know the ins and outs of any other society. Many people have their own interests but kids should be encouraged to find out about these sorts of things rather than just rely on what they are taught.

Why?

Because if kids can find out about these things they will find that it is more useful. I have been to places and whilst talking to that person discovered where they are from and then being able to ask something very pertinent about their home country that impressed them. Once asked a Puerto Rican if they voted for Statehood. They had but no one here apart from me even knew of it even taking place. That can be exceptionally useful in certain situations where you need to stand out like an interview.

Sigh. Not sure how you come to that generalised conclusion Bratty.

Think Theo, think the then youngest President, think Panama Canal....

If you say you're intersted in Asian history, well ,Theo received a Nobel Peace Price for bringing Russia and Japan to the negotiating table during their war so you should have heard of him even if you've never picked up a "western" book.

If she was Russian then ska would be appropriate though I would guess that she is Polish.

I nearly made the same comment, but was trying to use words and couldn't get it right. Nicely done.
